We better check and see if personal attacks include Mr. Jay Mariotti

Pretty good article to me. What's the problem? This team has been horses*** for the last 6 weeks. We've lost close to 9 games off our division lead since Aug 1st. Our offense has sucked major ass for a while now. Kenny wasn't able to make one move to upgrade the offense. Buehrle was being a little ho in making a silly claim such as a good hitting team like the Rangers stealing signs. Ariticle was dead on to me.

Does anyone have the audio from yesterday's game where Hawk called a writer, and also Mariotti a Hinnie Bird? I heard it replayed on MJH, it basically went:

 

A Hinnie bird flies around and around in perfectly concetric circles until it eventually flies up its own rear end and dissappears.

He's not incorrect, but this article just falls in line with what Mariotti does. He just writes enough articles on both sides of a topic so that he appear to be "right" no matter what happens.

As a columnist, he's supposed to write about what's going on, but the annoying thing about him is that he over-reacts with a tinge of anger in his tone, as if he cares what happens to any Chicago team. He clearly doesn't care, except I will suggest that he might enjoy when teams lose because he gets to trot out his own stupid nicknames and smarmy attitude. Hard to treat a winning team that way.

If Mariotti was a political columnist, he'd go from ultra-conservatitive to extreme leftist and back again within a week.

The final, final, final trading deadline passed late Wednesday night without activity, leaving the Sox with one of the flimsiest batting orders of any contender in years. Ken Williams has done a terrific job in overhauling the franchise culture and assembling a four-month dynamo, but trying to win a World Series for the first time since 1917 is a seven-month job. And he has failed to acquire a hitter -- unless we're counting Geoff Blum, and we're not -- who can inject Viagra into a limp lineup

 

Hit it right on the nail. I was disappointed that the only hitter we could get was Blum. Blum is a bandage for this lineup but not a starter. He did not do anything during the deadlines to improve our chances at at the World Series. I understand there was not much in the market but he should have gone all out this year because this is our chance. So I repeat Blum is just a bandage for the defense. This is not a bad article to me and everything he said is legit.

I will contend he shouldn't care. If you want commentary from people who care, just say here and read all the caring you want. If he was writing for a Minnesota or Cleveland paper, there would not be the venomous opinions against him.

 

I am willing to bet we could find more than a few respected posters here who have said everything in his column.

 

Still, as a Mariotti fan, I believe this is one of his worse columns. Not from what he said but how he said it. His dislike for the organization and the key people who represent the organization, are not veiled like he usually tries. I think he mailed this one in. Disappointing because the Jay I know and like reading should have been writing and rewriting this column since the All-Star break, waiting for the right moment to publish it. Instead it looks like he wrote it last night.

I hate Mariotti, but I COMPLETELY agree with his assesment today.

He is dead on. We are not officially choking yet, but we are starting to gag a bit.

Meh, not his worst column ever (not really saying much, though), although he totally ripped off Eric Zorn's stupid "tragic number" thing.

I'm glad there are others who don't fall for the mariotti bulls***.

 

This column was as expected, in my opinion: blatant shots at Sox players and other members of the organization, subtle shots at the fans. It sounded as sports-unintelligent as I've come to expect from him.

Who cares about Mariotti. No matter what his intentions were, this team has looked like s*** for an entire month.

The Critic and Yasny have Mariotti pegged correctly. Jay combines venom with a two faced nature, regardless of whatever writing talent he may possess.

I thought the article was fair to me. It will be on Kenny's and Ozzie's head if we dont do something with this team to make the playoffs.

By the time the playoffs come and the Sox had a great month of september we'll be Mariotti's favorite to win it all.

My only problem with the article is he says 'other trades could have been made'. Really Jay? How the eff would you possibly know that? Cuz you can say "well, so and so would really help this team, or so and so's bat would give them a lift"? Here I thought money was involved and both sides and the player had to agree to terms. Come to find out, all you have to is pick and choose whoever you want and they magically fall into your lap, just like that, deal done. Thx Jay.

Part about KW having 2 months is 100% on, I am tired of all the KW apoligist saying he had no chance etc, etc. No one but G.Blum is a joke so much for the we will have money to go get a guy we need in June/July crap he spews every dam year. I currently do not like this teams chances we play very sub .500ish against good AL competition every team is not KC.

The fact is, the market DICTATED that there would be hardly any trades this year. Any other season, you know KW would have made a move, he's proven that time and time again with the Garcia trade, the Everett trade etc.

 

Teams that don't have winning records aren't going to give away their best players just because they may be overpaid. They want to win now too, they're sick of losing.

We've played bad against the A's and Red Sox. We've held our own against everybodyelse. But, I do get why you would be concerned. Like I said, we're gonna learn an awful lot about this team the next 2-3 weeks.
