Marlins want to move

Featured Replies

Ownership has two years remaining on the stadium lease and will like to move when the lease ends. They'd like to move to New Jersey (Jayson Stark said that wouldn't happen) and if that doesn't work they like the idea of moving to Vegas (personally I think we all know Selig would never let this happen).

when they win 2 world series in 6 years and they play in "dolphins stadium", i'd want to move too.

I could see a stadium for the Marlins in Orlando.

Then, the D'Rays would move to Charlotte.

They need to move and get a new stadium. That sucks when you're sharing a stadium with an NFL team.

The Marlins or any Florida team for that matter need a stadium that will meet their needs weather wise. Tampa has it(i guess), Florida needs it. I always thought that if given a better stadium situation the Marlins would draw better, but it looks like the owners will never approach that situation.

It's irresponsible to not give Vegas a team... It's obvious the AL west desperately needs a new team... (a 4 team division, what a joke)... and it wouldn't hurt for attendance...

Going the 'Major League - play so bad they'll have to move us' route, ey?

The Magic have enough trouble trying to get a new better stadium built for themselves, I'd imagine they'd try to do that 1st, otherwise they may also relocate.

I could see Portland possibly making sense though.

New Jersey would be awesome. The NYC area needs a couple of more teams to split that revenue up more to take money away from the Yankees and Mets.

How exactly is it irresponsible to not give Las Vegas a team?

I think the whole gambling element lends a bit of irresponsibility itself. Vegas doesnt need a team, too much liability.

Ya, I think it would be irrisponsible to give a team to Las Vegas. Far too many pressures there, plus I really don't see them having a consistent fan base. They would sell out because all the casino's would buy up season tix so they could comp there customers (ie gamblers).

Vegas is a growing down but I don't think its worth risking and we all know Selig will do everything in his power to make sure a team isn't in Vegas. Think of the pressures on gambling.

It's the fastest growing city in the country and they wouldn't have any trouble finding financing for a stadium. I think it's a real possibility.

The AL West? So we can have 15 teams in each league?

Are you also proposing an expansion or contraction of one team in each league? Is another team going to switch leagues? Or do you want there to be an interleague series going on every day?

If they moved the Marlins to the AL West to give that division 5 teams, wouldn't the NL East then have 4 teams? Then the "joke" as you call it would just switch leagues and coasts.

Move them to Iowa.

Plenty of fields to play on. :bang

Why has nobody suggested moving to Gary, Indiana???

I know its the fastest growing city and money wouldnt be a problem. The problem is gambling and its close proximity to a game that prohibits gambling. Selig has enough problems with the credibility of baseball with the steroid issues, he wont put himself in a position where the outcomes in the games are in question.

No the Pittsburgh pirates would move to the NL East... Where they belong anyway...

You can't have an odd number of teams in each league.

You cant have 15 teams in each league.... thats why the NL has 16 teams and the AL 14..... :bang

The way around that is having interleague play year round. There was talk of it before the Brewers moved the NL. I'm not sure how it was supposed to work out but it would never happen anyway. Marlins are staying in the NL.

Loria just wants to bring baseball back to Montreal.
