November 30, 200520 yr QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Nov 30, 2005 -> 01:23 PM) The Score is asking if Konerko/Thome will be the best back to back (in the line up) Sox players ever. thomas belle

November 30, 200520 yr QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Nov 30, 2005 -> 01:23 PM) The Score is asking if Konerko/Thome will be the best back to back (in the line up) Sox players ever. Even though most would not like to admit it...when Joey Belle was here, he and Thomas were the most prolific in Sox history. Joey had the best single season in SOx history that year.
November 30, 200520 yr QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Nov 30, 2005 -> 01:23 PM) The Score is asking if Konerko/Thome will be the best back to back (in the line up) Sox players ever. '97 wasn't bad either.
November 30, 200520 yr QUOTE(Kalapse @ Nov 30, 2005 -> 01:23 PM) That puts the Sox' predicted payroll at $87.475 (or $88.475 if he makes $13M next year) for the 2006 season. Thome = $6M Konerko = $12M/$13M That still allows us some payroll flexibility if needed.
November 30, 200520 yr QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Nov 30, 2005 -> 02:23 PM) The Score is asking if Konerko/Thome will be the best back to back (in the line up) Sox players ever. Thomas/Belle>Konerko/Thome, but not by much IMO.
November 30, 200520 yr QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Nov 30, 2005 -> 01:25 PM) That still allows us some payroll flexibility if needed. Very true. A lot of these are predicted numbers though, so the payroll could sway about $2M either way.
November 30, 200520 yr QUOTE(Steff @ Nov 30, 2005 -> 11:29 AM) I don't know who reported that one, but it's a crock of s***. LA times reported it
November 30, 200520 yr QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Nov 30, 2005 -> 01:23 PM) The Score is asking if Konerko/Thome will be the best back to back (in the line up) Sox players ever. It depends on how they do together. Before they played together and one struggled when the other didn't, Belle and Thomas was pretty impressive.
November 30, 200520 yr QUOTE(daa84 @ Nov 30, 2005 -> 02:24 PM) thomas belle Even Frank/Maggs was better.
November 30, 200520 yr QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Nov 30, 2005 -> 02:25 PM) That still allows us some payroll flexibility if needed. Plus it sounds like we will move Marte (2.5M), and Hermy will likely go the surgery route and miss the year or get traded (3M), so that's more money opened up as well.
November 30, 200520 yr QUOTE(daa84 @ Nov 30, 2005 -> 01:24 PM) thomas belle thats what i was thinking
November 30, 200520 yr QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Nov 30, 2005 -> 01:25 PM) That still allows us some payroll flexibility if needed. not much....if we make a trade we will probably dump some salary...marte maybe or el duque who is dead money at 4 mil for a long reliever when baj or even adkins probably could be better anyways
November 30, 200520 yr QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 30, 2005 -> 01:27 PM) Plus it sounds like we will move Marte (2.5M), and Hermy will likely go the surgery route and miss the year or get traded (3M), so that's more money opened up as well. If Hermy doesn't play next year, we're on the hook for his $3M. He won't be traded, way too much of an injury risk.
November 30, 200520 yr QUOTE(Frankensteiner @ Nov 30, 2005 -> 02:27 PM) Even Frank/Maggs was better. In 2000, yes. The other years they were together, not so much.
November 30, 200520 yr QUOTE(Kalapse @ Nov 30, 2005 -> 02:28 PM) If Hermy doesn't play next year, we're on the hook for his $3M. He won't be traded, way too much of an injury risk. If he has surgery, insurance pays a big chunk of his salary.
