That's a good hire for the Cubs. Seriously.

The problem is that it is long rumored that the Cubs are run from a higer office than the manager.

Lou wont stand for this. And if it's true, he'll quit before spring training is over.

Interesting take, but I think that Lou is going to have a lot more control, and franky he's way smarter then Busty.

They still have Hendry as GM, and Rothschild will now stay as pitching coach, so nothing will change really IMO.

Yes it is cliche but Lou was just gonna go were the most money was offered. He doesnt care as much about winning as people are reading into it.He thought the market would be at alot higher price iam sure.Im just glad i dont have to hear dustys voice anymore,he was getting as annoying as G Bush's voice.

I really believe this is the best move the Cubs could have made. Obviously they aren't going to win with this group, but Lou will get the most out of what ever talent they have.

Oh I agree he's totally way smarter and more focused that Dusty and demands more any day of the week even if he was lying in a coma. Hopefully they (the Cubs bill payers) realize this and grow a pair tough enough to let him do what they are hiring him for. It's not about his intelligence. It's about the peanut gallery allowing him to perform to his potential.

I would guess that Lou will at least reconsider ALL of the coaching staff. I am sure that Rothschild will be on the list for Lou to think about possibly removing.

Looks like Pinella wants the Flubs to go after A-Rod as well. Should be another interesting off season.

Well Roth was a part of Lou's staff in Cinncy, IIRC.

Tribune says Rothschild just got a 2 year deal.

Did Pinella say he wanted "8 midgets that could walk a lot"???

Yes he did, and I thought that was very funny.

He came off great in the press conference, but we'll see what a couple losing seasons do to him.

Didn't we already see that?

I meant here.

Chicago is a little rougher than Tampa/St. Pete.

I had to turn to another radio station because I kept hearing "If the Cubs are serious about winning NOW, then they will hire Pinella."

Isn't that pretty much what they said about Dusty? "Baker's the manager, they want to win!"

In order to win they have A LOT of work to do.

That was REAL funny and has made me like him a little more! LOL!!!

Anybody else see Steve Lyons as his first base coach?

Cubs finally have a decent manager.

Don't get me wrong, Lou is a real good manager. But their pitching coach sucks, their general manager sucks, and their talent on the field and in the system sucks. Lou isn't Jesus or something.

It's rough seeing my two favorite managers go to chief rivals in consecutive offseasons (Leyland and Piniella).

This, however, is strange to hear coming from Sweet Lou's mouth (from the Sun-Times):

"It used to be, when I came up to the big leagues, boy, you better respect the manager because if you don't, you're not going to play on that team. Now, the manager has to earn the respect of the players. And that's my job: Earn their respect, so I can expect respect at the same time.''

I admire the old school managers and it's curious and a little sad to see Lou say something like this.

Seeing both Ozzie and Lou blow up on the field would be the most hilarious thing ever.

BTW, A-ram opts for free agency. The "increased payroll" for the cubs will take a huge hit in the bidding war for A-ram.
