He and Willie Alvarez were close to unbeatable the last few months of 1993. I remember there was a little controversy having Black Jack open the playoffs because those 2 and Alex Fernandez were throwing better than him at the time.

I'll take McCarthy from 2005 as the best 5th starter. And I think that Vazquez as a 5th starter last year put up better numbers than anyone we can have for the entire year.

 

McCarthy wasn't the fifth starter all year. He was a fill in. He sucked half his games; he excelled in his second half.

Just thought of this. So far in this short season, Danks is the 2006 version of Vazquez. Pitched some good games but can't get any damn run support.
