June 7, 200718 yr QUOTE(RibbieRubarb @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 03:43 PM) I'm sick of this constant bashing that the White Sox cannot do anything right. It is so extreme it's pathetic. Why? The Sox had every opportunity to get the best high school arm in the draft.
June 7, 200718 yr so, i should just pencil in poreda as a bust and porcello as a cy young candidate? got it.
June 7, 200718 yr QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 03:42 PM) LOLLERZ. Obviously you haven't been reading the last several pages. Specifically, where I said picking a power arm who never produces for the Sox is acceptable if he atleast gives the club a projectable arm. Sometimes the thoughout posts slip in between the biased, reactionary angry ones.
June 7, 200718 yr I'll say this. Our scouting department has been money in the later rounds the past few seasons. Just not the first round.
June 7, 200718 yr QUOTE(RibbieRubarb @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 04:38 PM) And if we picked Smoker, Griffith, Harvey, or Porcello all of you would have found reasons to blast the White Sox for those picks too. "They'll get hurt" "Wasted pick...we can't develop pitching" "We'll trade them away" "We'll never sign them" Have you been reading this thread, at all??? I'm basically just reading, and most of the names mean nothing to me, and even I know that people would have been pretty happy with Porcello or Smoker, at least.
June 7, 200718 yr QUOTE(RibbieRubarb @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 08:43 PM) Detroit's not that far of drive. Why don't you all pack up and go root for them. I'm sick of this constant bashing that the White Sox cannot do anything right. It is so extreme it's pathetic. What's so tough to understand? The Sox had a chance to take the BEST HIGH SCHOOL PITCHER in the draft, and they passed because of $$$ issues. I love when people talk about something they have no f***ing clue about.
June 7, 200718 yr QUOTE(RibbieRubarb @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 03:43 PM) I'm sick of this constant bashing that the White Sox cannot do anything right. It is so extreme it's pathetic. So don't read it.
June 7, 200718 yr Author QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 03:41 PM) An upside as a reliever at best. This is a terrible f***in pick. I would probably be more upset if the last 10+ years of first round draft picks haven't had been so terrible. I'd take Poreda and his once pitch right now over Broadway and McCulloch if those two were in the draft. I still believe it's inexcusable to allow Detroit an opportunity to select Porcello. It's simple, though. If Porcello meets his various projections and develops into a top of the rotation starter it's more pressure placed on our scouts to find talent overseas and further along in the draft. We're to the point where if blue-chip prospects don't emerge, we're going to be in trouble. Pressures on Williams. Edited June 7, 200718 yr by Flash Tizzle
June 7, 200718 yr this hard-assed Scott Boras client thing... I'm done with it... its basically our organization saying we're going to ignore top talent on princicple, and then watching our #1 competition laugh while they jack off to Porcello's stat lines
June 7, 200718 yr QUOTE(thedoctor @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 03:45 PM) so, i should just pencil in poreda as a bust and porcello as a cy young candidate? got it. Porcello should start getting his bust ready for Cooperstown if I understand correctly.
June 7, 200718 yr QUOTE(RibbieRubarb @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 03:43 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Detroit's not that far of drive. Why don't you all pack up and go root for them. I'm sick of this constant bashing that the White Sox cannot do anything right. It is so extreme it's pathetic. It's funny considering probably 80% of the posters here in this thread have never even been to a Sox minor league game. I'm betting an even higher percentage have never seen either, or any of these guys play in a game. Who knows what the guy will even sign for, if he gets sign, and if he ever makes a contribution to the Tigers' MLB team.
June 7, 200718 yr A couple of tidbits hot off the presses: - the Sox never considered Porcello today. There was only one team that contacted him besides the Yankees that picked after #10 - the Sox were leaning to taking Main or Alderson
June 7, 200718 yr QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 03:46 PM) this hard-assed Scott Boras client thing... I'm done with it... its basically our organization saying we're going to ignore top talent on princicple, and then watching our #1 competition laugh while they jack off to Porcello's stat lines That's a great quote. Be careful, if Mariotti is watching, he may steal it.
June 7, 200718 yr Like I said, Poreda wasn't one of my top choices. But lets give him some time before we call him a bust. He has a good arm, he's just raw and needs some secondary pitches.
June 7, 200718 yr QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 03:47 PM) And it's not like the Tigers are so much more f***ing wealthy than the Sox. That's my point. This team continues to draft a mediocre team.
June 7, 200718 yr QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 03:30 PM) Fabulous! Another guy with arm trouble. Maybe we can sign Wood and Prior this off season to go with him. Where on earth did you read that he has arm trouble? QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 03:30 PM) his numbers are not what you would expect for a first rounder in a pretty s***ty baseball conference. 93 hits in 100 innings and only 66 k's. WTF?? He will be nothing more than another reliever. To be fair the WCC isn't that bad of a conference. It's not the ACC, SEC, or Big 12, but it's far from a s***ty conference. The top half of the conference (San Diego, Pepperdine, USF, Gonzaga) are solid baseball programs.
June 7, 200718 yr QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 03:47 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> And it's not like the Tigers are so much more f***ing wealthy than the Sox. Yes they are. Their owner owns a pizza franchise. It's a s***ty pizza, but it still brings in a ton of dough. EDIT: No pun intended. : Edited June 7, 200718 yr by santo=dorf
June 7, 200718 yr from everything i have read i dont mind the scouting report, but i hate that K rate...its interesting to note that his fastball has that much movement...sox have said they loved danks and gio because lefties with movement play in well at the Cell....its also interesting to see that the A's would have picked him had we not gotten him....makes me think we did something right...ill bet this guy has a nice GB ratio...anyone have #s on that?
June 7, 200718 yr QUOTE(RibbieRubarb @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 02:47 PM) Porcello should start getting his bust ready for Cooperstown if I understand correctly. no one is saying hes a future HOFer, people are simply saying he was the BAP and we passed because of boras. i recall KW talking about how its good to have a few pennies in the bank after moving Garcia, well wtf?! we could've taken the best high school pitcher, and now hes with a divisional rival.
June 7, 200718 yr Author QUOTE(SoxAce @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 03:47 PM) Just for the record I'm with Flash. I like our pick. Whoa, now. I'm not thrilled with it, but I'm not as upset as I've been in previous years with our selections. Best I can put it as I'm rather indifferent. He has a good fastball, yes, but that's about it. I'd rather have had three other pitchers over him. Poreda better be a #1 or #2 starter sometime in his future.
