July 2, 200718 yr QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Jul 2, 2007 -> 11:27 PM) this organization is officially a debacle
July 2, 200718 yr QUOTE(Soxfest @ Jul 2, 2007 -> 06:25 PM) Pods can stay on DL make it 60 days he will get hurt again anyway! It won't be long before he will get injured while on the DL. I see no conceivable way KW brings Barbaro (good one fathom) back next year. If he does, at any price, he should be looking for another job.
July 2, 200718 yr QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 2, 2007 -> 06:27 PM) Impressive. For as bad as the outfield has been to date, this is the worst we've seen. One can only hope Terrero gets hit with a renegade tractor so we can see Owens-Mack-Gonz, or Owens in CF.
July 2, 200718 yr how the hell do you go from winning a WS to this s*** in such a short time? At least Florida dumped all their players.
July 2, 200718 yr I'm really going to get a laugh when KW and the chairman describe 2007 as the season where we were unfortunate with our injuries to guys like Erstad, Podsednik, and Crede. They'll probably toss in Thome's name there too talking about the time he missed, of course Ozzie said they were going to give Thome more time of this year. Don't know why they released Perez if they were thnking that way.
July 2, 200718 yr The White Sox are crying about losing their speed. Pods and Erstad. Have they not been paying attention the last several years? Why would it shock anyone they are injured? Its the reason they don't get huge contracts.
July 2, 200718 yr QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 2, 2007 -> 06:34 PM) The White Sox are crying about losing their speed. Pods and Erstad. Have they not been paying attention the last several years? Why would it shock anyone they are injured? Its the reason they don't get huge contracts. Podsednik and Erstad are two of the slowest "speed" players that you'll ever see. This team was doomed from the beginning.
July 2, 200718 yr QUOTE(WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Jul 2, 2007 -> 06:18 PM) There is no excuse for Sweeney to still be in the minors. ^^^^^^^ Seriously god damn let the kid play.
July 2, 200718 yr QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 2, 2007 -> 06:22 PM) Do you suppose it's accurate to say that Jerry Owens is a poor man's Nook Logan? Julio Ramirez minus the arm.
July 2, 200718 yr QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 2, 2007 -> 06:46 PM) Julio Ramirez minus the arm. Julio Ramirez knew how to work a count. JR drew a walk once ever 19.2 ABs, Owens . . . every 31 ABs.
July 2, 200718 yr QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jul 2, 2007 -> 06:25 PM) I'm really excited for an Owens-Terrero-Gonzalez outfield. The real disturbing part is that Owens-Terrero-Gonzalez wouldn't even be our starting outfield in Charlotte.
July 3, 200718 yr QUOTE(WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Jul 2, 2007 -> 11:18 PM) There is no excuse for Sweeney to still be in the minors. Sure there is -- dude can't even put up an .800 OPS in a tiny ballpark. I'd guess it would be more of the same as his first call-up -- pitcher's would pound him hard in-in-in.
July 3, 200718 yr QUOTE(scenario @ Jul 2, 2007 -> 06:55 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> The real disturbing part is that Owens-Terrero-Gonzalez wouldn't even be our starting outfield in Charlotte.

July 3, 200718 yr You got to be kidding me. Sweeney should be playing every day. God what a terrible decision. Sweeney has a future...Owens does not.

July 3, 200718 yr QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jul 2, 2007 -> 05:13 PM) Sure there is -- dude can't even put up an .800 OPS in a tiny ballpark. I'd guess it would be more of the same as his first call-up -- pitcher's would pound him hard in-in-in. Umm..he posted an 800+ OPS over the past month since being sent down. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 2, 2007 -> 05:25 PM) I laugh at those that don't think Ozzie needs his "speed" guy at the top of the order. I think he needs his speed guy...I've said it all off-season Kenny really screwed the pooch both this year and last year when it came to not giving Ozzie what he needs (athletes to go along with his horses...ie pitchers). But Sweeney is an athlete and Owens is well a 5th outfielder.
July 3, 200718 yr QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 3, 2007 -> 12:27 AM) Umm..he posted an 800+ OPS over the past month since being sent down. He's posted an .839 OPS in June. That's okay, but those numbers don't scream "call-up" to me. It'd be nice if his great tools actually started translating into dominant production. Edited July 3, 200718 yr by CWSGuy406
July 3, 200718 yr A-gon and Terrero both get on base with more regularity than Owens. Give me Sweeney and let one of those guys sit at the top of the order, preferable A-gon
July 3, 200718 yr QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jul 2, 2007 -> 07:13 PM) Sure there is -- dude can't even put up an .800 OPS in a tiny ballpark. I'd guess it would be more of the same as his first call-up -- pitcher's would pound him hard in-in-in. There's still some chance Sweeney could become a 4th OF. They might as well give him the at-bats at the major league level rather than Owens. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jul 2, 2007 -> 07:43 PM) He's posted an .839 OPS in June. That's okay, but those numbers don't scream "call-up" to me. It'd be nice if his great tools actually started translating into dominant production. In Charlotte and the shallow talent pool of the IL, .839 isn't that impressive to me. I don't understand why people get so excited by the prospect of Sweeney taking over a starting OF spot. Cue people posting about how young he is and how great his swing looks.... Edited July 3, 200718 yr by hitlesswonder
July 3, 200718 yr Well, unlike the rest of the Soxtalk crew, I'm not going to bash or make fun of a guy that's had a lot of bad luck in the injury department. It's unfortunate. I'm sure he won't be back next season.
