Ahh he decided to go to Illinois last week, which is why last week the Gators gave him a release from his scholly, maybe I should post info here when learn it. Anyways, it's a nice pickup, he's a talented WR. He'll be able to redshirt in 2008 and will have 2 years to play 2 years after that.

That's a great pickup for Illinois. Big time WR to compliment the other young guns like Benn, Gamble, and Cumberland.

Also, the Illini just picked up a commitment from DE Whitney Mercilus out of Akron, OH. He's a 3-star that plans to enroll in January.

Illinois also has their first verbal for the 2009 class, stud d end Melvin Fellows of Garfield Heights, Ohio. I've never seen Illinois get a verbal for a football recruiting class this early (ie before the signing day this year, they get a verbal for next year). Wow.

This class for Illinois is clearly gonna be the one that everyone goes "Holy $%%#." I would expect to see 2-4 5-stars, and at least 10 4-stars. Everything I have read indicates Fellows is a top 10 player in the state of Ohio, which would make him a 4-star prospect likely. Also reports that Ricky Harris another top Ohio player committed to Illinois, but apparently that was pre-mature. I think Zook ends up with a top 10 class next year. Illinois is loaded with talented players who will go to ILL over Michigan, OSU, ND and such. Huge class for the Illini next year, plus with Fayson who is basically a five-star prospect with two years under his belt, wow.

AJ Jenkins? Yessir. :)

Is there any doubt that Illinois will be a perennial power for years to come with Zook? I mean the jury is still out on just how good of a coach he is, but if you have enough talent, it can more than make up for it. (sup John Brady)

No matter how great of a coach one is, you can't win titles with mediocre talent, it's pretty obvious Zook realizes this.

Griffey is taking an official here on the 30th. I have no idea what our chances are with him but it's fantastic news that he's actually making an official visit. He'd be a huge get but I doubt it'll happen. At least there is a chance though.

I am going to go out on a limb and say its gonna be between Mizzou and Illinois. I think Wiscy can be a darkhorse, but IMO it will come down to Mizzou and Illinois. I think Mizzou will win out because of the early playing time.

the florida scout.com board moderator says wide receiver a.j. jenkins committed to illinois. nice pick-up, particularly with anthony morris's situation looking shaky. jenkins had offers from illinois, lsu, florida, and miami. he's from florida and de-committed from georgia tech.

Zook is crazy, he is recruiting like an SEC coach, sign 30 guys every year (I have been told 31 or 32 will sign this fall) and bend the rules to keep only 85 guys on scholarships. Not that there is anything wrong with that, I'd rather see Zook doing that than have a squaky clean coach like Weber ruin everything.

If you want to know the difference between Ron Zook and Bruce Weber, and more noteably the direction of their programs, look at tonight's showdown between #1 Whitney Young and #5 Homewood-Floosmoor in hoops (and SIU fans, Kevin Dilliard is the truth, but back on target). The best player on the floor tonight, for either team, was none other than Illinois FOOTBALL recruit Supo Sanni (despite the fact Illinois is recruiting 3 different players on Whitney Young), who had 25 points and 15 rebounds as H-F pulled the 66-55 upset.

Wish I could have seen the game, from the sounds of it Dillard just has some sick handles, needs to work on his shot though. Still haven't seen him play so that's just from what I've read.

Yeah, Weber should stop focusing his recruiting on the 3 star, 4 star, and 5 star guards because they were outplayed by a football recruit. He should be going after better players than these already very highly rated guards. Heck, just go after football players instead.

Seriously, it's an interesting subplot, but to turn that into a negative about Illinois basketball is just stupid. These are some of the best players in the state regardless of what happened tonight.

a.j. jenkins commitment article

also, cahokia tight end london davis committed to illinois over missouri, iowa, wisconsin, and a few others.

His shot might be his greatest strength. He's a 90 pct ft shooter right now. From what I've seen from SIU so far this season, he'd be their best offensive guard.

FT shooting and jump shooting are different things. I have heard contradicting points on whether Dillard is a good shooter or not from reading everything online, but I need to see him play before I jump to any conclusions. At least between him and Bocot next season, it looks like we'll have two guards who can put the ball in the bucket.

Not a whole lot out there about Dillard, but here's a writeup about him.

Kevin Dillard

Kevin is a 5'9 thin guard from Flossmoor, Illinois. He suits up for Tai Streets and the Mean Streets AAU team. Kevin was the first we saw Friday night when his team took on top ranked point guard Brandon Jennings and the Southern Cal All-Stars. Kevin controlled his team very well and understands what the coach wants out of his PG. He plays very good defense and is not afraid to mix it up with bigger guys. Kevin ended the game with 11 points and 8 assists. Mean Streets had a 21 point lead over the So.Cal. All-Stars but let it dwindle away when Brandon Jennings put his team on his back scoring 22 2nd half points. So.Cal. went up 4 with just under a minute when Kevin hit a 3 right in front of his bench to pull the team within 1.

Then after fouling, Kevin hit another 3 from basically the same spot to put Mean Streets up for good (73-72). We also had the chance to see Kevin and Mean Streets play the North California Pharaohs in the round of 32. Kevin led the team with 17 and showed everyone that he can also control a game. With the game tied at 47 with just about 10 minutes to go in the 2nd half Kevin led his team on a 20 – 4

There was lots of good teams at that event. I only went to see De La Salle on Saturday.

Chicago state has a nice little arena.

DePaul would be very wise in putting together something similar to that tournament on campus, along with seriously recruiting some of those young guys like Mike Shaw and Blackshear...but the little school under the tracks isn't all that wise...

RB Darius Willis to announce on Tuesday.

The Hoosiers also seem to be moving up on Orhian Johnson's list.

This is a pretty bad example...I know what you're trying to say, but there are many better ways at illustrating the difference between Zook and Weber.

jarred fayson story

interesting that fayson says he expects to split time between wide receive and quarterback at illinois. you wonder if they work some mcfadden-type stuff for him.

Word is that Pryor will decide and commit within the next 2 weeks..
