What it shows is you wanted the Rockies to win so you're defending a blown call. It's obvious.

Wow, what a classic response. How much money did you lose on the Pads?

Sorry, this wasn't close compared to that play.

It's a similar situation where the ump called something that is still unsure even after replay. Either way he calls that play, someone's gonna say it's a blown call.

Well, I don't care enough about either team to really get into a big argument. All I know Holliday didn't touch home. You can come up with whatever you want to come up with. He didn't touch home. It was a great, great game, though. I can't wait until this series starts. I expect lots and lots of offense.

Classic retort. No rooting interest, here.

He's on the other side of Barrett's foot (though the replay shows him behind Barrett). The most plausible explanation made here was that Holliday dragged Barrett's foot across the plate, with his hand touching the plate. Unfortunately that didn't happen, the ump had to think about it or he would have called him safe immediately, and he chose the call which blew the series. There's no arguing this. This is NOT the first "bang-bang" play a professional umpire has had to call.

Really though, I was just looking to watch some good baseball, and thats what I got. So bad call or not, I got what I was looking for.

Yes, that is the bottom line - great game!

You just spoke of the most plausible situation yourself.

Could he have made the call sooner? Perhaps. However, there is no NEED to rush a call, because you are more likely to kick it, in general, when you do. You take your time, review what you have, and make the call. If you notice, that's how he is with his strike and ball calls, as well. He was consistent in that respect.

Again, walk a mile in his shoes instead of sitting back and watching endless replays of it.

That last play really reminded me of the Francisco Cabrera-Sid Bream game in 92. Plus Dan Orsillo sounds a lot like Sean McDonough.

And the Phils will sweep the Rockies.

Even if it's just an opinion, I don't see any way that's happening. The Rockies are playing ridiculous baseball right now, they are getting (and making their own) breaks right now, and the pitching staffs have to be considered pretty equal right now. The Phillies offense is assuredly better, but it's not like the Rockies offense sucks.

Personally, as much as I love them, I think way too much credit is being given to the Phillies right now.

It was pretty clear that Holliday was out, however I was overjoyed that the cocky Pads chocked it away. For the last 1 1/2 months we have had to deal with all of the insults the Pads been sending our way here in AZ.

First it was Milton Bradley saying that we play with "fake hustle", then it was Bud Black whom said that we seem to "only show up just enough", then it was Jake Peavy who that "he could pitch on 2 days rest because he owns our lineup", Heath Bell followed by saying that we would choke away our division lead to his Pads, and finally Tony Gwynn said that "Our team would not make the playoffs (September 16) because we didn't have the veteran presence like the Dodgers and Pads.

It was a great feeling to see the Pads go down in such fashion and so much for their "veteran presence". The Pads talked the talk but didn't walk the walk.

I just don't think the Rocks have enough pitching. The Phils have an ace in Hamels, and a decent number 2 in Kendrick. And people forget that the Phils have also been on fire.

One thing is for sure the ball will be flying out of Citizens Bank Park this week. And in Coors this weekend.

Wite, your sig f***in' rules.

I see it the other way.

Rowand, why you such a Phillies hater?

Oh I love the Phils(ok, I don't' love them, but they're my favorite team in the playoffs), I just don't think they have much chance in the playoffs.

Explain yourself, Rowand. I think the Philles have as good a chance as any team in the NL. They have the best offense in the NL. They're on an incredible roll right now. Is it pitching? Well, Hamels and Kendrick is a nice 1-2 punch. I'll admit the rest of their rotation doesn't look that great. They've got a good bullpen. I just don't see how you can say they have no shot.

First, I'm not sold on Kendrick yet, so that has a lot to do with it. We'll see what happens but I bet he gets hit a bit in the plaoffs. As far as their bullpen, how is it good? It's pretty damn bad if you ask me. It's been better as of late but still, they're not good, they'll get exposed. And I really don't care who was hot and who was not getting into the post season, you can throw all that out the window once the playoffs start, imo.

Well, I'm a big believer in the theory that the hottest teams going in are the most dangerous. And you're right, I shouldn't have said the Philly 'pen was good. Overall it hasn't been that great. But it has been great the last 3 weeks or so. And you're right, Kendrick will have to prove himself in the playoffs. But you can say that about a lot of the pitchers for the NL teams. We shall see. I will make fun of you when the Phillies go to the WS.

Deal sir. :)

Yep, definitely going with the Rockies as the NL representative in the World Series.

Get ready for an epic controversey in the coming days. He didn't touch the plate at all. The ump even knew it. I think he was afraid of getting shot if he had called Matt out.

If that happened to the yankees or BoSox there would maybe even be an appeal and trial. With the Pads, meh.

'We're going to have a great bullpen.' You just can't tell."

cubs television schedule really blows.

5:00 on Saturday night and then 12:00 the next day.

Ouch.

also, the play wasnt the end of the inning. the Rockies would have had a runner in scoring position still(helton advanced to second) with one out.

Had it been 2 outs, game tied, I think there would be more controversy on this call. That doesnt make it right, but thats how I see it
