66-52 - 0.5 games over Twins

Rasner sucks on the road and Slowey is pretty good at home.

If we win sweep and Minnesota wins tomorrow, we'll have a 1 game lead going into Oakland.

Yeah just f***ing pound the f*** out of the Royals.

I wish somehow, someone could just randomly pound the f*** out of Greinke. He has the stuff to be a #1, and he atleast now has the mentality for baseball...it's just too much and that peckerhead needs to be taught a f***ing lesson. Throwing at players in two consecutive starts is a little f***ing bush league and something needs to be done about that.

Is this 2003 all over again? Sox score primarily on power, they are talking about a possible 4 man rotation just like they did in '03 when Danny Wright went down. And the Sox and Twins are neck and neck. Look at the standings as of August 13 in 2003 and see how similar it is now minus the KC being in first obviously.

August 13, 2003

Kansas City 64-55

Chicago 63-57

Minnesota 61-59

August 13, 2008

Chicago 66-53

Minnesota 66-54

Then we came up short, i hope we dont this time. Then we had Colon, Loaiza, Buerhle, and Garland now we have Floyd, Danks, Buerhle and Vazquez.

Then we had Valentin, Thomas, Maggs, and Pauly. Now we have Quentin, Dye, Thome, Konerko and Griffey. I think our pen is stronger now than it was back then... maybe that will be difference? A Santana-less Twins also helps ;)

Well... at least people have stopped comparing this team to the 2007 team.

I look at this year a little differently.

If someone told you March 30th that as of 8/13:

Both Buerhle and Vazquez would be below .500

Bobby Jenks would have 22 strikeouts

Scott Linebrink would miss over 1 month of the season

There would be more than a couple posts that Octavio Dotel shouldn't be used in close games

Nick Swisher would commonly be refered to as "dirty .230"

Paul Konerko could only wish he was hitting .230

Joe Crede's back would go out again and Juan Uribe would be the 3rd baseman

Jim Thome didn't hit the first 2 1/2 months

Wasserman,Russell,Carrasco,Broadway would all be recalled from Charlotte.

Contreras would be hurt. Win 7 games and be lost for the season.

Horacio Ramirez would be acquired because Boone Logan was horrible.

Cabrera would have several issues with teammates and management.

I don't think anyone would say first place was even a remote possibility. Everyone mentions the Sox faults, and obviously there are many. A lot of people are afraid of the Twins, and maybe rightfully so, but everytime they grab first place, the Sox take it right back. This team is different. They haven't got all the breaks.

i think someone has in their signature "A bad team is going to win the AL Central. Let's hope it's the Sox", it's been pretty accurate even up to this point, who knows what'll happen to either of these teams if they make the playoffs... they say anything can happen.

If I recall correctly Loiaza lost some 1-0 games down the strecth against Radke that year, very demoralizing losses to the Twins that year. We are going to have to win some games in the Metrodome to get this done.

Just like I said from day one in this thread... That is why you enjoy every victory and forget every defeat. People waste too much time on who is right, and who is wrong.... On who sucks and who is the star. Forget all of the peripheral crap, and enjoy the game of baseball for what it is. You get a lot more out of it that way.

it really is remarkable that the sox are where they are. but it's just another example of why minoso's three word description of the game is ultimately brilliant:

you never know.

This has been one of the most frustrating teams to watch for a long time, for me anyways, and yet we are somehow in first. In short, I love this team :lolhitting :gosox3:

I dont think its accurate to say the Sox are a bad team. Not at all

Honestly, if Paulie keeps hitting, we have one of the best offenses in baseball. Its all up to how consistant our starters can be. (consistantly GOOD that is)

The only term I would attach to the Sox with certainty is streaky. They can be good, really good at times. And other times they can be bad, really bad.

But they arent a bad team

If I were to put a label on this team, based on their expecations, it would have to be overachievers. NO ONE expected this team to be here at this point.

Perspective can be a wonderful thing.

i'm not sure you can build an objective case that says the sox are a bad team. anyone who calls them bad needs to step back and take a look around the league. perspective can be very helpful sometimes.

i think as sox fans we are going to pay closer attention and overanalyze every detail. getting caught up in that can cause you to totally overlook the big picture, one that shows the sox as pretty damn good.

i'm not saying the sox are great, or even ready to declare them a playoff team at this point. but they are not bad in any way you'd care to define it.

Again, let's go with some f***ing swagger and act like a first place team.
