He is a FA after this year and Thome may be gone due to I'm not sure he'll reach 1100 plate appearances or whatever. I'm not so sure on bringing Dunn in (another reason) because I think he'll want too much per.

 

I just want to see what you guys thought about him possibly DHing for us next year given the fact that he doesn't want a huge amount per.

If Thome stays healthy, his option will vest. As big of a Dunn hater as I am, I wouldn't have a problem signing him if the Sox made some other wholesale changes to the roster (ie, getting rid of Konerko, Crede, Contreras, Cabrera, etc) and getting one more starter (and relying on a youth movement in the infield). If the Sox got rid of Konerko and Thome than I'd say Dunn would be a must sign (having that presence in the middle of the lineup is necessary).

He's clearly not a complete ballplayer (poor defensively, can't hit for average, strikeouts a lot) but he gets on baseball with the best of them and obviously has about as good of power as any player in the majors. He's also still young so you are talking about having him for what I'd consider a good chunk of his "prime". I also don't consider him a major injury risk.

When you run through Joe Crede's negatives do you list "pops out to SS/2B in 50% of his ABs"? Because I'd seriously like to know what the difference is between a strikeout and a lazy popout to a middle infielder.

Here we go- you may think I'm nuts, but I was thinking:

 

Crede walks. We then want Adrian Beltre because KW is not sure on Fields. The Mariners say they want tons of prospects but we tell them they must take Konerko. They don't exactly have a set #1 1B man so it could make sense. We deal them Konerko, Broadway, Fields, and Getz for Beltre.

 

This way, we could be Swish at 1B, Anderson/Wise in CF, Beltre at 3B, (Thome walks due to not enough plate appearances) and Dunn at DH.

What are the park ratings like for Great American compared to the Cell. Both are launching pads, and most of the Donkeys shots aren't cheap, but would/should his stats improve in the Cell?

 

GABP is very similar in HR park ratings to The Cell IIRC, both at the top of baseball every year. Not that it matters, most Adam Dunn home runs go about 83532854324 feet anyways.

 

As for this idea, PK is going nowhere and we will likely have Thome through 2009. Combine that with Dye and Q in the outfield corners, and there is nowhere for him to play. So this won't happen, although I'd love it. But it won't happen.

Based on what? 1 Minneapolis Star-Tribune article that said the Twins made a call? The Mariners don't even have a GM right now and have yet to decide on what direction to take the club next year (this mainly having to do with the lack of a General Manager.) They won't begin dismantling that roster (sans Sexson) until a new GM is hired (which will not be happening any time in the next 2 weeks) and even then they might just go for it again next season considering how much they've invested in that rotation. I'd say there's a much better chance they hold onto Beltre through the end of the season.

Well he'd give them a big upgrade defensively at 3rd base.

 

The M's might pay $2-3M of that contract, and Twins will have Livan Hernandez coming off the books at the end of the season (and will replace him in the rotation with Liriano).

 

So yeah, I could certainly see this happening actually. Plus they may think, last season in his deal, he produced big time before, they may hope he's motivated enough to do it again.

Adam Dunn is a far superior player to 90% of baseball. Man is a stud. His batting average (.230) is the lowest it has been since 2003 and he is still gonna hit 40 HRs and walk 100+ times. How can you hate on a guy who has a .385 on-base percentage and is gonna bomb 40 balls? What else do you want?

1. I can think of other ways to spend $10+ million than putting another DH on the Sox now.

2. OBP and home runs are 2 things we've tried to load up on since the end of 05. That will win you a lot of games. But if you're not able to win games in other ways...you're going to have some trouble.

I don't like Dunn on the current version of the Sox. If they get rid of Thome and Konerko I would be all about Dunn (because I believe every lineup should have a few power guys) but as currently constructed this team has enough power guys who don't hit for high averages and could use another guy or two that could hit for high averages, possess good speed and other attributes.

To be honest. The best player on the trade market for us right now would be DeJesus if Dye is hurt for awhile. You play him in CF and lead him off. Q goes to right and Swish to LF.

He's signed through 2010 with an option for 2011 at a very reasonable price. The Royals aren't going to trade him to the White Sox.
