Here's the scoop.

Starting September 2:

 

No more free snacks. That little bag of Pretzels? Over. Now you can buy snacks instead.

No more free meals for overseas flights. It may not have been a lot, but if you're stuck on a plane for 10 hours, having some complimentary service would be nice. That's done for out of Washington D.C. and probably soon done for passengers flying internationally out of Chicago.

You can. Just has to be bought in the airport.

I'm pretty sure you can bring all sorts of foods onto the plane. You just can't bring your own beverages onto the plane.

I had hot soup from an airport Chilis taken from me back a few years on a Continental flight. They nice person at the gate told me it was "too hot". I asked him to blow on it for me. That may have been the problem*

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

*I kid. I delayed boarding a couple minutes and ate it at the gate. It did make sense, I was planning on finishing before take off. I figured they serve hot coffee in flight.

And they want to try to curb air rage. Yeeeeaaaaahhhh, good luck with alllll that!

 

And you can bring beverages on the plane, you just have to buy them at the airport.

At the rate things are going, there won't be any airlines to fly, let alone any food to eat on the flights. I really wouldn't be surprised to see a return to the pre-deregulation cost structures, because that is what it is going to take to survive.

They are trying to nickle and dime things to death, but I wouldn't be surprised to see 2 of the three majors completely fail, leaving a near monopoly with the legacy carriers, which then would let them set what prices they need to be profitable. There's still too many airlines in the marketplace as it exists now.

 

I'm still never flying United again after flying with them to Chicago and back and not returning home until 4AM in the morning over here.

 

But I hope the above situation (with a monopoly) doesn't happen, because that'll be terrible for prices. Unfortunately, it could very well occur.

I imagine you went through O'Hare, so I'd be willing to bet the airport is who you actually have a problem with, not the airline.

Yeah I did. I flew out on a Friday Night and got in 90 mins after I was supposed to (due to a plane off the runway at O'Hare apparently), and then my return flight was delayed for 2 hours. The reason? Operations (whatever that means).

I was flying to Arizona last year and had a drink of McD's and they made me throw it out or finish it before I got on the plane. They must have been prejudice against the handsome.

And the speed at which fares (and gas prices) went up, has consumers surly as it is. And this kind of thing only makes people more surly.

Yeah, just customers have to understand that they aren't the only ones that are hurting. The effects go way beyond just the pump.

What are they supposed to do? Not raise costs to make customers happy and fly every plane at a loss? They are really between a rock and a hard place because flying planes is not cheap.

Northwest has probably been the best airline I've flown with thus far in my travels round America (even if I did have 2 mins to make a connection in Detroit to Memphis running past 40 gates).

If they know they have passengers trying to make a connecting flight they won't leave you. At least I'm left with that impression having been on more than one plane thats been held up for that reason.

Really? I guess if it throws the schedule too far out of whack, but if it's only 10 minutes, they'll wait.

Well, when you travel a lot, it's bound to happen more. I've had them held, and had them leave. Thankfully, I don't have to worry about it anymore.
