February 3, 200917 yr Author I'd personally like to see a 2 year, $16 mill deal. When Thome's gone next year, you have DH flexibility.
February 3, 200917 yr also. like to add ny papers have had us in rumors before and basically got shot down. aka Koerko to Yankee for Randy Johnson
February 3, 200917 yr QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 3, 2009 -> 09:08 AM) This could also be an agent trying to get some bidding going from other teams... Nnnnnnnnnnnnnno nnnnnnnnno...Sssssstop it...ssssstop it.
February 3, 200917 yr QUOTE (kane0730 @ Feb 3, 2009 -> 11:10 AM) Mully/Hanley on the Score are speculating Figgins for Dye if Abreu is signed. I would like to think the Sox could get more then just Figgins for Dye. can Chone play CF? I think he probably can... Figgins CF Abreu RF Quentin LF (maybe swap LF and RF) Thome DH Konerko 1b Pierzynski C Ramirez SS Fields 3b Getz 2b sounds pretty good to me...but frankly i think if we trade dye it is going to be for young pitching
February 3, 200917 yr QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Feb 3, 2009 -> 10:15 AM) I'd personally like to see a 2 year, $16 mill deal. When Thome's gone next year, you have DH flexibility. Next year the economy probably will be worse. You might as well go year to year with Abreu if this report is even true. I don't know why a team would trade for Dye when they could pick one of these other guys up for a lot less unless the White Sox have decided they will pay some of Dye's contract. February 3, 200917 yr abreu and figgins sounds great, but dye for figgins straight up sounds like absolute garbage. Are there any pitchers were possibly looking at? Post Script...Whether or not we get him, I hope this be the last time we talk about trading for chone figgins, amen.
February 3, 200917 yr I'd be very disappointed if they traded Dye for Figgins. Figgins just doesn't excite me... and I can't wait for the day he retires so we can stop listening to rumors about him coming to the Sox. Of course, given KW's habit of bringing in players at the end of their careers, even then we may not be safe. I was thinking that KW may be trying to take advantage of Manny turning down another big offer from the Dodgers. If Abreu was off the market, maybe the Dodgers would bite on Dye instead of being held hostage by Manny. Edited February 3, 200917 yr by scenario

Honestly, it does, but so did Carlos Lee for Scott Podsednik. Sometimes you downgrade in value to upgrade your lineup. CF Figgins RF Abreu LF Quentin DH Thome 1B Konerko SS Ramirez 3B Fields C Pierzynski 2B Whomever wins the job That's a very good lineup.
February 3, 200917 yr If the Angels chucked in a decent prospect along with Figgins, I would pull the trigger on that deal, if you could get Bobby for 1/8.

They also got Vizcaino in the Lee deal and a horrible minor leaguer.
February 3, 200917 yr A top of the order with Figgins/Abreu when healthy would be pretty damn fantastic. I too would think the Sox could get a bit more for Dye than Figgins but I'd be content given the make-up of the Sox club and some of the money the Sox would save. I still think there would be better options. I also question the source because the New York papers have typically been way off on Sox rumors.
February 3, 200917 yr Think about this: Figgins Abreu Quentin Thome Konerko That is a pretty damn solid 1 through 5. The question's obviously get a bit bigger as you move down in the lineup but the Sox still have AJ to hit behind Paulie and than Ramirez/Fields/Getz
February 3, 200917 yr I'd assume this offer isn't made without somewhat of a gentleman's agreement already on the backburner with Dye or Thome (most likely JD). I'd like this move only if it brings back high-talented young player(s). Abreu would be a nice addition in the 2 spot or really anywhere in the lineup b/c he can get on-base. I'm all for it but I can't imagine he accepts it, then again, the list of other suitors aren't exactly contenders and in one year maybe the market bounces back a little. I'd imagine even more if he takes advantage of our park.

February 3, 200917 yr How could someone be bad at RF. That's where they stuck me in little league because I sucked.

February 3, 200917 yr QUOTE (bmags @ Feb 3, 2009 -> 09:58 AM) How could someone be bad at RF. That's where they stuck me in little league because I sucked. Not trying to be an ass but that was LITTLE LEAGUE.
February 3, 200917 yr QUOTE (GREEDY @ Feb 3, 2009 -> 09:26 AM) Just in case anyone cares: Abreu sucks in RF. I would have to think Quentin would move to RF if Abreu replaced JD. Abreu is bad but isn't Dye just as bad, if not worse. I could've sworn Dye was like the worst AL Rf in the fielding bible, or up there. I'd hope Quentin would shirt to RF but who knows their possible plan.
February 3, 200917 yr There is a decent chance that Quentin would move to RF and Abreu would slide to LF (If Dye was traded). However, I can't see the Sox doing anything until one of these guys were moved.
February 3, 200917 yr QUOTE (jenks45monster @ Feb 3, 2009 -> 09:39 AM) I predict a Homer Bailey trade coming. Maybe, It wouldn't be straight-up though... so who would we be talking about Bailey+Dickerson? Dickerson's a good enough athlete to handle center.
February 3, 200917 yr Imagine if whoever we have play CF this year put up these type of numbers... 450 at-bats 14 doubles 1 triple 1 homerun .276 BA .367 OBP .318 SLG .685 OPS 34 stolen bases Is that what we're looking for in terms of production from CF? Those are Figgins' stats from 2008. Take away his one big year in 2007 and I don't see much that excites me. Take away his one big year in 2007 and his career (offensively) isn't much different than Juan Pierre's.
February 3, 200917 yr FWIW Abreu had a RZR of .872 last season compared to Dye's .887. Not a huge difference, but that was also Dye's highest RZR in a season since he's been with the White Sox.
