Whats to understand. Catcher calls the game, you pick up the target, execute your mechanics, and try to hit the spot. Its not like a pitcher has to think all that much. I would say, thinking too much and messing with your catcher who calls the game gets more pitchers in trouble. Young pitchers should be like robots, see sign, hit spot and repeat.

Buehrle's been in the league for years and he still pitches like that.

I've seen a couple of 93 and one at 96 after he was pissed off after the homer, when he was facing Inge.

 

Cold weather...Gavin just doesn't seem to be loose and he has no confidence with his command and he's standing straight up (as noted by Hawk and Stone). A lot of times, it's simply throwing two seam versus four seam fastballs, too.
