Porcello's core numbers are awful, everything but Wins is mediocre.

ERA right around 4?

I'd say Anderson had the better year

Porcello 1.345 WHIP 9.4h/9, 1.2 hr/9 4.4K/9 2.7BB/9 4.04ERA

Anderson 1.283/WHIP 9.2h/9 1hr/9 7.7k/9, 2.3BB/9 4.06 ERA

Beckham probably won't win, but there is no rookie or any player drafted in the 2008 draft KW couldn't get straight up for him. I fully expect Gordon Beckham, if he doesn't get hurt, to be a Hall of Famer, and one of the greatest White Sox of all time.

The stats also suggest that Niemann followed by Romero were both better then Porcello.

That's nice. I like Peavy/Buehrle/Danks/Floyd a lot more.

oh i like them too - but not one of them is the pitcher that Verlander is.

I really hope somehow, Jake Peavy becomes aware that people are saying things like this about him. Because 2 years ago, he might well have been better. And it's not like he's that old.

Oh, Peavy is similar to Verlander.

Depends on how you define similar. Can Peavy pump it up to 99? I don't recall him doing that. But that doesn't mean he can't be just as nasty.

Similar results.

He had a great year, but he won't win it unfortunately.

in the 9th inning. On pitch #120.

He wont win, but I'm gonna be pissed if he finished four or fifth in voting, which wouldn't surprise me in the least...

Writers will give it to Andrus or Porcello, though I think their are better candidates for both pitchers (Romero, Niemann, Bailey) and position players (Beckham).

Anyone remember how Wieters and Price were supposed to get it?

Peavy is better than Verlander without question.

Beckham should win because he's out there every day. All the pitchers go out there a few times a week. If Beckham doesn't win the the ROY then its all a sham.

Andrus put up good numbers and played great defense. i wouldnt be too disappointed if Beckham lost to him.

You forgot that he cannot hit 99, on pitch 120, though.

IN the same respect, pitchers have less chance for success or failure.

uhhh no hes not. an argument could be made for either but certainly not without question.

Just wondering what argument can be made in Verlander's case... I mean, he obviously had a better year than Peavy this year, but that's because Peavy missed a substantial amount of time.

4 out of the last 6 seasons Peavy has had a better ERA+ than Verlander had this year and this was Verlander's best year of his career.

Peavy's WHIP is a ton better too, along with most other stats.

Start with the fact that Verlander is just reaching his prime and had his best season and is a horse. Continue with the fact that Peavy pitched in the best pithing park in baseball and in a crap league, which certainly helps his stats immensly.

I think we need to see an entire season from Peavy in the AL before we can really make a case for either.

Now back to your regularly scheduled discussion about Gordo.

I didnt realize that Peavy was past his prime and that Petco delivered him his cy young.

Werent his numbers significantly better on the road than they were in Petco over his career?

ERA+ accounts for league and park.
