November 7, 200916 yr Author The Dodgers also declined Jon Garland's '10 option making him a free agent.
November 7, 200916 yr QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Nov 7, 2009 -> 08:24 AM) Manny costs the Dodgers 50 games because of a drug suspension, so they re-up him and pick up his $20 million dollar option That was a player option. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=4631051
November 7, 200916 yr QUOTE (JorgeFabregas @ Nov 7, 2009 -> 10:49 AM) That was a player option. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=4631051 It was actually an escape clause. He signed a 2 year deal with the option to opt out of the 2nd year.
November 7, 200916 yr Cliff Lee's option also picked up. Probably the biggest no brainer of all no brainers.
November 8, 200916 yr Sosa is frightening now. I'm probably going to have nightmares thinking of that face. That has to be the scariest thing I have seen in quite a few years.
November 8, 200916 yr Author QUOTE (Benchwarmerjim @ Nov 7, 2009 -> 01:12 PM) the Twins picked up the 2011 option ($10.5) on Micheal Cuddyer Wow, that is early to do. Did they have to do it already?
November 8, 200916 yr QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 7, 2009 -> 05:12 PM) Wow, that is early to do. Did they have to do it already? Pretty sure most options need to be picked up within like 10 days of the end of the series.
November 8, 200916 yr Author QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 7, 2009 -> 09:25 PM) Pretty sure most options need to be picked up within like 10 days of the end of the series. For 2011?
November 8, 200916 yr Until I read this article, I figured that Sosa's look was just the way the cameras had caught him.
November 8, 200916 yr Author QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 7, 2009 -> 10:07 PM) Until I read this article, I figured that Sosa's look was just the way the cameras had caught him. Dude looks like he should have a conversion van and a bag full of candy.
November 8, 200916 yr QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 7, 2009 -> 10:00 PM) For 2011? yeah, its a bit confusing, but thats how the contract read. I suppose its a bit of a security blanket for the player since you'll know you'll be getting paid pretty god for at least 2 more years instead of going year-to-year
November 9, 200916 yr Looks like now the Red Sox need a new SS.. Officially at least. The Red Sox have declined a $6 million option on shortstop Alex Gonzalez, according to the Boston Globe. The report cited an unnamed source. The move would not preclude the Red Sox from trying to bring Gonzalez back at a lesser price. Gonzalez, 32, plugged a big hole at short for Boston after being acquired from Cincinnati in a waiver deal this August. He made just one error in 44 games with the Sox and provided unexpected help offensively, hitting .284 with five home runs. The move seemingly leaves the Red Sox without a reliable option at shortstop as Jed Lowrie was limited to 68 at-bats in 2009 because of injury.
November 9, 200916 yr QUOTE (SoxAce @ Nov 8, 2009 -> 07:11 PM) Looks like now the Red Sox need a new SS.. Officially at least. I don't even recall him getting traded to the Red Sox. Shows how much I paid attention to baseball this season.
November 9, 200916 yr Apparently, the BoSox were in talks to get JJ Hardy but the Twins swooped in and got him.
November 9, 200916 yr QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Nov 8, 2009 -> 04:41 PM) I don't even recall him getting traded to the Red Sox. Shows how much I paid attention to baseball this season. Prior to the Teahen trade...the Red Sox overpaying for Ramirez and thinning out our IF looked more plausible.
November 9, 200916 yr QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Nov 8, 2009 -> 10:14 PM) As much sense trading Alexei makes, it doesn't. Given his salary over the next two years, he is a tremendously valuable asset to this organization, even with the errors. To go along with that, his value isn't as great to a team like the Red Sox, who are in a whole other hemisphere in terms of payroll restrictions. Absolutely. I would say in most spots you should atleast call and find out what they might think of offering - and maybe you still do - but when they also have Jed Lowrie hanging around, I don't think you can count on getting a hell of a lot from Boston for Alexei. If they absolutely had no other option for SS in house and were that close to a World Series, I'd say you may have something, but in this instance, I don't think it's the right place. You might get one good prospect and a decent prospect or two, and that's just not worth moving Alexei.

For an Ellsbury and a power arm for the pen it makes a bit more sense, imo. I think there could be some legitimacy to the idea of a Ramirez and Jenks for Ellsbury and a power arm or two.
November 10, 200916 yr QUOTE (Brian @ Nov 9, 2009 -> 07:30 PM) Trade Winds There isnt much going on in pale hose talk during the offseason, Trade Winds is unnecessary when we have Diamond Club and PHT
