Ok so a friend of mine just invited a bunch of us to his baby shower. First off, isn't this weird? I was always under the impression this wasn't for guys. I really don't want to go to this but without a legitimate excuse not to, I kind of feel obliged. Is it socially acceptable to just send a gift with someone you know is going?

The only baby shower I ever attended was the one for us expecting our baby, and the only bridal shower I ever attended was the one the families threw for us.

This is not the realm of the man, unless the man is directly impacted. Stay home and send the gift.

If your friend doesnt get it, that's on him/her.

I know the expectant Dads are getting roped into the baby showers more often than not (I was), but I'm not sure how often male friends get invites to them. I'd send a gift and find an excuse.

I know virtually nothing about baby showers, but my initial impression is that his friend wants one of his buddies there to have someone he can hang out with during it.

Better be a pretty damn good friend.

Yeah, I was pretty bored out of my skull at the showers for my own kids. But we got a lot of good baby loot so I shouldn't complain.

Or maybe there will be some good-looking single girls there who can see how SWEEEEEEET he was for being there.

Not worth it. Once you start those kind of expectations into a relationship, you are holding a gun to your own head.

I know most of her friends. Not really much incentive for me there.

Being that it's Chuck Norris' birthday, I had the urge to look up some of the Chuck Norris facts. There are some great newer ones out there.

So, WGN TV Morning News does a segment called "Before They Were Stars" were they ask a celeb questions about what celebs did before they became famous. They had on Traci Lords this morning. They should have asked "This actress is famously known for having done underage porn while passing as an adult."

Just found out my little brother (age 17) is possibly a father. This should be an interesting few days in the household.

Yikes. There is nothing bigger to change your life than that.

You got that right. I just hope he gets off his ass, gets a job and handles his responsibilities if its true. I'm gonna talk to him when he comes home from school tonight about this. Hopefully the kid isn't his for his sake. I'll keep ya posted what happens later on today.

My cousin, who is like a brother to me, had a kid last year, age 19. He's finishing community college next fall and got accepted to the local university. Baby's 3 months old now, they're making it work but my aunt and uncle are helping out a lot.

Ya no doubt it will work here (my mother has a caring heart) but say someone's parents weren't so nice, 17 is a bigger difference than age 19. My brother is still a junior in high school, and he will have this over his head. I've been around plenty of people though who had kids from 15-18 that I know when I was in high school (some close friends of mine) so no doubt he'll be fine, but it's up to him to take responsibility for it, and so far.. he wants nothing to do with his possible child which I'm gonna chew him out about later tonight IF the kid is his..

Frankly, if it is his, it is too late. The mistake has already been made. Now the focus has to be on what is best for the baby.

Alright, well it's been an interesting few hours going to the doctors, making calls and such. My brother is one lucky S.O.B. I won't go into detail what happened (PM if you really want to know) but the kid isn't his and his ex gf is a serious b****. That is all.

I think he meant chew him out for not wanting anything to do with the kid.

Someone needs to get b**** slapped after all of that.

If I EVER had a scare like that when I was young and got out of it scott free, I would be triple bagging until I was ready to have a kid.

PHEW

yikes, well I'm glad he's off the hook. It would be no good to be a father at 17. I'm 23 and really doubt I could handle it now.

I know how hard it was to start at 30. I can't imagine my dumbass at 17 having a kid... that poor baby.
