There is yet another factor which I forgot to mention. Last year was his first year in the American League. As he gets to know the pitchers better, his familiarity with their 'stuff' should help him to improve upon his first half season in the A.L.

 

On the other side of that coin is that AL pitchers have now had a chance to see him, and they will adjust accordingly.

That's a pretty big 'if,' considering he was hurt at the end of last season.

With the exception of his abysmal batting average last year, his hr/rbi numbers would probably look pretty good if he played 140-150 games. Those numbers are also against pitching he's never seen before. Even though Jason Bay did his .293 in his short time with the red sox after being traded in '08, but they can't all be winners!

He would also have gotten on base at an abysmal rate. A rate that would have mitigated whatever upside that power brought.

Nix would have hit about 23 HR and Jones would have hit about 32, and recent history shows that would have been an obvious power outburst from Nix, where Jones on the other hand has dropped 30-40 bombs consistently in his career

Only Nix is young enough to show this kind of upside, and Jones hasn't put up those numbers, with encouraging peripheral stats, in years.

Looking at his numbers last season, Jones hit a good amount of doubles and HR's given his ab's and walked a decent amount too.... just the abysmal avg. Id hope given him being in better shape and playing on a more consistant basis he can up the avg. and he wont be that bad at all.

If it all was against LHP, maybe.

Nix averaged about 16’s homeruns per 542 Ab’s in the minors. His power isn’t out of the blue, and it’s pretty nice when you accompany it with his plus defense at 2nd and 3rd. I think he'll be a nice player for the bench until he's kicked off the team when we finally get a new DH.

His first reported leg injury last year where he was taken out of the game happened on April 22.

So I guess you could say it is possible that his leg injury affected his production.

Yeah, that's just plain bad. Getting on base is extremely important, especially when you're talking about using a DH low in the lineup. A Jones/Kotsay cocktail is not the same as having a Thome or Blalock. If our DH is going to be batting 8th or 9th, the ability for said DH to get on base and move others on base is paramount.

I've seen him on TV in the cage. He looks pretty good. No big gut like the last couple years.

 

I wanted Damon because you know what you're going to get from him. But I'm feeling pretty good about Andruw Jones being serviceable until they can make a trade. And who knows, maybe he'll be a big surprise himself in 2010.

There have barely been any pics at all, just a few. And he's only been in the cage, not out with the P&C crowd. So no surprise really.

Havent read the thread through, but quick question. If Jones indeed has most of his agility back, shouldnt there be days that Pierre DHes?

 

Jones/Rios/CQ in the outfield has some serious cannonage.
