June 19, 201015 yr Right now, I'd say Alex Rios is a lock. Paul Konerko and Bobby Jenks have to be possibilities as well. Anyone else have different opinions?
June 19, 201015 yr QUOTE (sin city sox fan @ Jun 18, 2010 -> 09:22 PM) Right now, I'd say Alex Rios is a lock. Paul Konerko and Bobby Jenks have to be possibilities as well. Anyone else have different opinions? ?!?!?!? But I think Rios and Paulie get in.
June 19, 201015 yr Konerko will have a hard time. There will be 4 1B on the team already ahead of him (Youkillis, Tex (you know Girardi will take him if he rebounds), Cabrera, Morneau). If Tex continues to suck and loses the fan vote, Konerko should be on.
June 19, 201015 yr Author I think Jenks actually has a better chance than Paulie....his save percentage is among the best in the AL.
June 19, 201015 yr Jenks' ERA is too high, the manager won't take him. And there's also Billy Butler with the Royals. They need somebody to go.
June 19, 201015 yr QUOTE (sin city sox fan @ Jun 18, 2010 -> 09:33 PM) I think Jenks actually has a better chance than Paulie....his save percentage is among the best in the AL. And there are guys with similar or better save percentages who have been ultra dominant in all types of situations this season. Generally you'd hope the super elite closers would make the All Star team. You know Rafael Soriano, Mariano Rivera, Jonathan Papelbon, Jose Valverde guys like this. At least Konerko has the 4th highest wOBA among AL 1B, he's actually been one of the elites at his position this season. Alex Rios should be a lock at this point. BTW
June 19, 201015 yr QUOTE (chw42 @ Jun 18, 2010 -> 09:34 PM) Jenks' ERA is too high, the manager won't take him. And there's also Billy Butler with the Royals. They need somebody to go. Joakim Soria or David DeJesus I suppose.
June 19, 201015 yr Rios is a lock. Paulie should make it but won't. Jenks should make it and might. Thornton would make it if set up men made it. He won't. The starters were too s***ty for too long a period for any of them to make it. But Danks is our finest starter. Prediction: One and one only: Alex Rios. Edited June 19, 201015 yr by greg775
June 19, 201015 yr Bobby Jenks would have to go on a 2003 Eric Gagne type run between now and when the teams are selected to justify any kinda consideration for the All-Star team. Rios is a lock and will be there. In most years PK would be. But you know Cabrera and Morneau will be there. Tex (like somebody mentioned, Girardi won't leave him off) will be there. Youk's gotta be there. You can only have so many 1B. Danks has a shot if he can go on a run between now and selection time. That's about it. Nobody else is even close.
June 19, 201015 yr QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 18, 2010 -> 10:28 PM) Rios is a lock. Paulie should make it but won't. Jenks should make it and might. Thornton would make it if set up men made it. He won't. There are 9 closers in the AL that have better numbers than him. He should not be anywhere near an All-Star spot.

Do you even slightly follow teams other than the White Sox?
June 19, 201015 yr Jenks? How about Linebrink then? Yeah, Jenks deserves to be mentioned in the same breath as Linebrink. My god.
June 19, 201015 yr Jenks? All-Star? Seriously? I guess maybe if we erased everything that happened before June when he pulled his head out of his ass, then yeah.
June 19, 201015 yr QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jun 19, 2010 -> 06:18 AM) Do you even slightly follow teams other than the White Sox? There's probably 15 set-up men with a better ERA than Matt Thornton this season as well.
June 19, 201015 yr Rios is a lock If any sox pitcher would be considered I would have to seriously consider freddy garcia he's been the savior for our rotation so far
June 19, 201015 yr After reading this thread I'm starting to reconsider the whole "Sox fans are smarter than Cubs fans" myth.
June 19, 201015 yr Rios, Konerko, and Danks all deserve looks to make it but I agree with most in saying Rios will be our lone selection.
June 19, 201015 yr Rios and Paulie should, only Rios will. That's fine, we dont deserve any more than that.
June 19, 201015 yr QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Jun 19, 2010 -> 11:08 AM) Rios and Paulie should, only Rios will. That's fine, we dont deserve any more than that. This is it ^
June 19, 201015 yr After reading this thread I'm starting to reconsider the whole "Sox fans are smarter than Cubs fans" myth. Why? Most of us said only Rios will make it. We added some other guys who should be considered. But nobody said 5-6 guys should be in. We said Rios will be the only one. As far as Jenks, I don't apologize for listing him as somebody who could or should make it. He's been one of the better closers in baseball and sometimes they take guys on reputation and he's had a great season so far. Just look at all the Red Sox and Yankees who make it on reputation year after year. If you guys want to continue to devalue White Sox players, go ahead. Jenks ranks right up there with the elite closers. He has for years. Edited June 19, 201015 yr by greg775
