July 1, 201015 yr QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 1, 2010 -> 10:09 AM) What do you mean "he appears" to want to play for a winning organization? How do you determine who does and doesn't want to play for a winner? Maybe he means that DeJesus doesn't believe that the Royals have what it takes to be a winning organization and he isn't happy playing with them?
July 1, 201015 yr QUOTE (soxfan-kwman @ Jul 1, 2010 -> 09:26 AM) Dejesus is a good call. He will add something & I don't know for sure, but he seems like a guy who wants to play on a winner. He appears to want to play for a "winning organization" That makes the Sox a long shot then. "Winning Organization" is defined by Webster's Dictionary for the Professional Athlete:Any professional sports franchise that is willing pay and athlete what the athlete thinks he is worth or well above market value.
July 1, 201015 yr QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jul 1, 2010 -> 09:07 AM) Seriously? You don't think this team can handle more ex Royals and ex Nat'l leaguers?
July 1, 201015 yr QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Jul 1, 2010 -> 11:19 AM) You don't think this team can handle more ex Royals and ex Nat'l leaguers? If they're good players, I don't care if they played for the Newark f***ing Bears, I want them on this team.
July 1, 201015 yr QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Jul 1, 2010 -> 09:19 AM) You don't think this team can handle more ex Royals and ex Nat'l leaguers? I wouldn't dismiss DeJesus simply because he's on the Royals. DeJesus can play all 3 OF positions and has a career .361 OBP and career 108 OPS+. I'd love to have him on the Sox.

July 1, 201015 yr QUOTE (docsox24 @ Jul 1, 2010 -> 03:01 PM) Everett, Mackowiak, Benitez... We missed out on Benitez, he got signed by the Marlins. It's always funny looking over the Bears roster...constantly get flashbacks and remember certain players you'd completely forgotten about or wondered what they were doing. Edgardo Alfonzo, Scott Spiezio, Brian Barton, Daryle Ward, and obviously Everett. Kala Kaaihue is on the team too, but they list him with his given first name, Isaiah, rather than by Kala. That's fun stuff.

Remember when the Cubs thought he was a stud... Raines is managing, Karkovice is a coach, and Banks is a coach too. I love the Newark Bears.
July 1, 201015 yr QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Jul 1, 2010 -> 10:22 AM) Maybe he means that DeJesus doesn't believe that the Royals have what it takes to be a winning organization and he isn't happy playing with them? Pure opinion as far as Dejesus, as for "winning organization", sarcasism of Hawk
July 1, 201015 yr While it is not going to happen (unfortunately) we could upgrade the team a LOT more by adding a solid defensive right fielder and moving Quentin to DH, than by just adding Dunn (or Laroche, Berkman, Scott). By Fangraphs numbers, David Dejesus would be an improvement of 14.5 runs on defense compared to Quentin. Add in that he's just been 1.4 runs less valuable than Dunn on offense this year, and that's a glaringly better target, and a lot cheaper. There is very little chance of Quentin being moved to DH.
July 1, 201015 yr DeJesus + Pierre in the outfield at the same time just asks teams to take extra bases.
July 1, 201015 yr QUOTE (knightni @ Jul 1, 2010 -> 05:34 PM) DeJesus + Pierre in the outfield at the same time just asks teams to take extra bases. I'll take that over terrible range.
July 1, 201015 yr QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 1, 2010 -> 05:37 PM) I'll take that over terrible range. Yup. Give me range over arm any day. Between Jermaine Dye from 2006-2009 and CQ this year, I've been scarred for life as far as RF defense goes.
July 1, 201015 yr There are a lot worse right fielders than Dye for most of his Sox career here and Quentin. We need some guys who can hit. Our defense has been pretty good since Teahen exited.

July 2, 201015 yr QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 1, 2010 -> 05:59 PM) There are a lot worse right fielders than Dye for most of his Sox career here and Quentin. While they catch the balls that are in their range and have average to above-average arms, their range is a nightmare and a huge liability. Erasing a lot of the good they can do offensively. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 1, 2010 -> 05:59 PM) We need some guys who can hit. That's why I suggested Dejesus.
July 2, 201015 yr QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Jul 1, 2010 -> 06:21 PM) So I'm still wondering what it would take to get DeJesus. Mark Kotsay is a better defensive outfielder than DeJesus and offensively both players are fairly similar. Kotsay can also serve as your backup first basemen. Obv David is off the a much better start this season, but considering Mark is free and DeJesus would cost prospects, I just assume let KC keep him.

If I'm Kenny and the Royals offered me DeJesus for Quentin straight-up, I'd seriously consider it. Quentin at his best is obviously far superior offensively. The problem is that he's made of glass and has been highly-erratic when he actually has been healthy. DeJesus has a $6M club option for next season.

Our defense has been pretty good since Teahen exited. Okay Greg, to give you a picture of how bad Carlos and Dye have been these past few years, think about Teahen, but two times worse.
July 2, 201015 yr Josh Byrnes and A.J. Hinch are gone. Maybe this is a time we should try to deal for LaRoche?
July 2, 201015 yr QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 1, 2010 -> 09:36 PM) Josh Byrnes and A.J. Hinch are gone. Maybe this is a time we should try to deal for LaRoche? I'm actually disappointed. Kenny seemed to have a good relationship with Byrnes.
