CHICAGO -- A Monday visit to the doctor brought the news Mark Teahen wanted: he was cleared to participate in full baseball activity.

"Basically, the X-rays looked good and the bone and joint are healed well," said Teahen, who fractured the tip of his right middle finger while fielding an Evan Longoria grounder on May 30 in Tampa. "I can do everything without risking hurting it again. I was able to throw a little bit and hit with two hands. It went better than I expected."

Teahen speculated how a Minor League rehab assignment would take place when the White Sox next go out of town, meaning the start of August. The left-handed hitter could be helping the White Sox as a super-utility player by the time they return to host Minnesota on Aug. 10.

The return of Teahen could serve as another team move without giving up any prospects to acquire a left-handed bat.

"One thing that's going to happen very soon is Mark Teahen is going to come back and that's a left-handed bat that is a good left-handed bat, and he's proven that he can hit in this league," White Sox general manager Ken Williams said. "So, we're not completely void from having that."

"I've been counting down the days for a while," said Teahen, who admitted the feel on handling grounders still seemed a little strange. "It's exciting to feel like a baseball player again."

Thing is, we're stuck seeing Teahen. Same deal as Linebrink. Sox are paying them so they got to be on the team.

I wouldn't mind Teahen if he just replaces Kotsay and his at bats.

Can't imagine Oz getting rid of Kotsay though. He appears to love him. Viciedo is the guy who is gonna get sent down though I wish it was Lillibridge if I had to pick between those two (I'm assuming Oz has to have Kotsay and Jones both).

Mr. Teahen ,

While you were gone we ended up in 1st place with a fantastic run of pitching, timely hitting and pretty good defense. This is not to suggest we don't need you. On the contrary . There is a great position available against RH pitching in the middle of the order . We happily welcome your .820 OPS , .376 OBP, and .289 BA . We don't need you against LH pitching or to play the field very much but your role is still very important.

As you know an injury to Mr. Peavy and a few key prospects in the minor leagues limits the organizations ability to acquire an impactful LH bat . So welcome back and do what you do best.

Best regards,

Kenny Williams

Yes, but can we count on THAT Mark Teahen showing up in the last 2 months?

He's never been in the heat of a pennant race, and obviously the heat will be on him to produce because clearly the team was struggling before he got injured and no doubt many in that clubhouse can draw a straight line to the infield defense improving with Vizquel's insertion into the line-up.

Fortunately, he only has the expected "standard" of doing better than Mark Kotsay, which right now is around a 650 OPS, and theoretically this SHOULDN'T be too difficult for him to accomplish. (Fingers crossed.)

I would prefer the sox put Teahen in RF and DH Quentin. Quentin is nearing Dye territory out there. For Marks career in RF he has a -2 UZR vs. Quentin's -16 for the year; for Quentin's career he owns a -6.9 UZR in RF. In one simple move we would improve our collective OF defense and ozzie could use Jones as a defensive specialist out there. Also ideally it would keep CQ healthier.

Viciedo goes down for sure. Teahan is utility. Ozzie will stack the lineup with left handers at times and at other times play the hot bat ( Kotsay,Teahan). I think people who want to dump Kotsay forget he is our only backup at first if Konerko get injured.

I believe that Teahen plays first, along with Viciedo. In a pinch I believe that there are several others who could handle first base temporarily as well.

Sending Viciedo down when Teahen is ready makes the most sense. He can get some consistent AB's in AAA for most of Aug. and come back in Sept.

For the long term, yes that makes the most sense for his development.

For winning games...sending away Kotsay and replacing him with Teahen makes the most sense.
