OBAMA/TRUMPCARE MEGATHREAD

Avik Roy is to me the most interesting conservative health care policy writer. Here are his thoughts on this bill:

Expanding subsidies for high earners, and cutting health coverage off from the working poor: it sounds like a left-wing caricature of mustache-twirling, top-hatted Republican fat cats. But not today.

Having seen how the VA is run and how Medicare is run....even if it can be done without a dollar increase in my taxes, I still say no thanks.

It's just amazing that this country has to keep having these conversations as if a single payer health insurance plan is some wild new hypothetical program that's never been tried. It has, in differen

Democrats better get out ahead of the branding game. Some Republicans already calling it Obamacare Lite or Obamacare 2.0.

If this mess passes, the GOP is going to shift its failures onto them with the moniker alone.

Ha, I saw that and made me actually LOL

Obamacare was a disaster. It will be replaced by something much better, much cheaper and will cover everyone. Believe me.

GA-6 becomes a much more fascinating race now.

Pelosi says you got too pass the bill too know what's in it don't fret. Worked so well the first time.

Average premium will rise $1542 in the first year, and continue increasing as 2020 hits to $2409.

In general, the impact of the Republican bill would be particularly severe for older individuals, ages 55 to 64. Their costs would increase by $5,269 if the bill went into effect today and by $6,971 in 2020. Individuals with income below 250 percent of the federal poverty line would see their costs increase by $2,945 today and by $4,061 in 2020.

Older and poor people would be particularly hard hit. That's the political third rail, because of their voting rates and many being on fixed incomes (due to forced early retirement/jobs being outsourced/physical health problems) without many cost of living adjustments in recent years.

With $600 billion in tax cuts for the rich, how can this meet the "go/no go" criteria of not increasing the deficit ten years down the line?

Chaffetz also told Camerota that FBI Director James Comey has not responded to his attempts to discuss President Donald Trump's unverified allegation that former President Barack Obama ordered the wiretapping of Trump Tower phones.

Chaffetz said lawmakers plan to investigate Trump's claims and that his attempts to reach Comey have been unsuccessful.

How Congress responded to Trump's request to investigate the Obama administration.

"I texted him," Chaffetz said. "I said, 'Please call me, if you can.'"

But Comey did not return Chaffetz's call.

"No response," he told Camerota. "But that's not atypical."

Nice! Obamacare replaced with Obamacare. This is going to piss off the base big time. I don't see why Democrats are pissed at all- this is still going to be a hemorrhaging pile of govt waste. Now they don't have to be responsible.

There's nothing bold about it. There's nothing republican about it.

Quit trying to rush this s***. Back to the drawing board, take your time & get it right.

To help avoid this political liability, the Republican plan calls on insurance companies to continue covering and offering coverage to Americans with pre-existing conditions. This, despite the fact that the sickest 10 percent of Americans account for a whopping 66 percent of the nation's health care spending.

Back to the drawing board, take your time & get it right.

We've been waiting since Hillary Clinton and Ira Magaziner in 1994 for a legitimate/innovative Republican plan.

Did all the good ideas and original thinking go out the door with Jack Kemp?

Lets be fair. Its a more expensive worse version of Obamacare. That is why Democrats are pissed, because its going to be a disaster for everyone besides for people like Trump.

And last I checked, Republican's voted in Trump. There is no difference between Trumpism and Republican's. Conservatism is dead. Trumpism, which can be defined as supporting anything that helps Donald Trump personally, is now what the Republican party is about.

Obamacare that will drop about 15 million insured and dramatically increase costs over the current Obamacare, all the while having a much larger negative impact on the poor. It's the worst of all worlds.

Not for the rich. They get a massive tax cut and expanded use of FSAs/HSAs.

The young/healthy are better off...but they're all going to sit on the sidelines and wait until they get sick.

Don't forget to both write and call your Rep and Senators.

I think the most startling thing out of this bill is the benefits to middle-aged, healthy and urban people over young, elderly, and rural.

For a GOP whose base is much more rural, it is weirdly disconnected. Rural hospitals will get crushed.

We're definitely calling this Trumpcare.

Paul Ryan. And the rich people that tell him what to do

Ding ding ding.

This puts my father's health/life at risk.

So unless Republicans come up with an alternative that costs 1 iPhone 7+ a year, f*** them.

Can somebody explain how this plan would drop 15M Americans? I thought anybody who signs on to Medicaid through 2020 gets grabdfathered forever or until they leave the program. Where's the drop
