If true, the organization really must not feel Morel is the answer at 3B. First trading for and extending Teahen and now thinking about trading their biggest trade chip for a 3B. I am a big Stewart guy, though. I would not be opposed to acquiring him in the least. If he can shake the minor bumps and bruises he always seems to get, he'll be big time.

 

They like Morel but they may not think he's the everyday answer just yet. Also, Stewart doesn't have to play 3B, IMO.

Honestly, if we trade Floyd, we had better be getting a player like Stewart and at least 2 of another teams top 10's. Cheap, young, durable starting pitching doesn't hit the market often, Floyd is a huge chip.

I agree. He may be very streaky, but he is a solid 3/4 starter and was 7 innings short of 200 IP in 09 and 13 innings short of 200 in 10 AND he is cheap.

Stewart's plate discipline makes Juan Uribe look like Nellie Fox.

Or not. That being said, no thanks on Stewart. The guy is going to be 26 at the start of the season and has sucked away from Coors, I'm not a huge Morel fan at all but I'll live with him instead of trading Gavin away for a guy that we're hoping lives up to his potential.

Stewart is loaded with ability and can certainly handle 3B at an adequate level. If it were me, I'd platoon him at 3rd with Morel and if they sign a guy like Dunn, slide Stewart over to 1st.

I'm pretty sure the White Sox 'liking' Ian Stewart means that they'd just want him in a package. I really doubt he'd be the centerpiece and unless we got 3 pieces that are very similar to him, I'd be a little upset. Stewart/Fowler/Something would be alright with me I guess, but if you trade Gavin for any kind of position player, they have to be productive and start for the trade to really be worth it.

Just cause he strikes out a lot doesn't mean he has bad plate discipline, the guy still takes his fair share of walks.

Why trade a good chip to fill a position that already has 3 players there? The upgrade Stewart MIGHT provide over those 3 guys is not worth losing Floyd. If the Rockies want Floyd, then try for Fowler + prospects or set your sights high and make a package around Floyd for CarGo.

I wonder if Huston Street would be involved in the talks. I remember when Street was with the Athletics there was some talk of KW targeting him, even when he was with the Rockies(before signing that 3 yr extension).

Running on the assumption, KW is a persistent GM in his pursuits, it wouldn't surprise me if Street's name came up in the discussions.

Now if the package was Huston Street, Ian Stewart, and a low-level prospect like: Chris Frey(OF), Lars Davis© , or Isaiah Froneberger(LHP) for Gavin Floyd and Mark Teahen. I'd be pretty happy with that.

 

Street could replace Jenks, Stewart could start at 3B, Morel could develop a bit more in AAA, and we'd get a savings of ~$8 M (all predicated on what Stewart commands in arbitration)

Morel is regarded as a good defensive player so that would be an improvement over last year's defense at that position. Obviously, his hitting is the question, but the Sox could have a pretty good defensive infield .

Hah, yeah, his response would probably be that even if we traded every worthless minor leaguer we have, it still wouldn't be as valuable as CarGo's left leg.

Ian Stewart is in his second year of arbitration, if I'm not mistaken.

 

If he does end up on the South Side while shedding Teahen, KW can't make the same mistake; by signing him to an extension right away. Give him a year to prove he can handle the corner and evaluate your best options (Stewart, Morel, or *gulp Viciedo). I for one like Stewart"s prospects he's shown a pretty decent glove @ 3B and he's got good power potential. My concern is how well he plays outside of Coors field (which seems to be an argument for all Rockies players).

He of the .220 .308 .334 .642 line away from Coors, mmmkayyyyy. You're trading for players who are mediocre players while having half their games at Coors, and are really pretty terrible away from that ballpark.

As much as I love Dexter Fowler, Gavin is much more beneficial for us, especially with Peavy's uncertainity. IIRC, Stewart can play 3b, 2b, 1b, LF, and RF. How well... I don't remember from minor league reports, though I know he was a butcher at 2B. (which the sox don't need him there anyways)

This trades sounds like it was made up by a Rockies fan on bleacher report. So lopsided.

The sox are said to like Ian Steward through various media sources and the Rockies are said to have interest in Gavin Flloyd through various media sources. That doesn't mean the two are of equal value and would ever be traded for each other.
