Cliff Lee signs with Phillies

Featured Replies

last night I jokingly said to my dad that Lee signed a 5 year deal with the Phillies. I had him good. We were talking about how good the rotation would be and how it came out of nowhere. I had to tell him I made it up. There is no way he will believe me now lol

Clay is way better than Lackey.

at staying healthy.

This is fantastic news for the White Sox. I'm not concerned about Yankees spending money to sign relievers, as it's not like the White Sox were going to spend significant money on any remaining relievers. It's obvious any significant reliever we bring in will be via trade.

What do the Yankees do now? They're going to start throwing money around now, right? Who's the trade market that that they can get besides Grienke, who supposedly doesn't want to go there?

Is this the Cubs opening to move Zambrano, if they are even considering it?

Agreed...if anything this trade might give us more leverage in trade talks (of course depending on the player's involved).

KW already made it clear he's looking via trade for relief help, so any Yankee overspending shouldn't be too big a deal.

They got 3 prospects in return, but they also gave up prospects. D'Arnould, Taylor, and Kyle Drabek (who, when combined, are much better than what they received).

And in return for those 3 got the 2010 Cy Young award winner who is under contract through 2013. Now they have both of those starting pitchers and 3 prospects to show for it.

Garza's got to be moving now.

Yeah, I wasn't saying it was a loss. I was just saying they didn't really get 3 prospects in return in the big scheme of the trade.

Yeah, the Rays might be the biggest winners of this deal (Phils aside).

You have to look at those two trades as separate entities.

The 4 playoffs teams from the AL in 2010 have just had miserable offseasons so far.

Shocking. For once, the Yankees' money did them no good.

?

What two trades? It was all one deal.

Anyways, it's all semantics.

If I am Kenny, I am seeing what the offers are for Danks, Floyd, Buehrle, and Jackson are right now

5 years! well I officially predicted this last night. Now off to buy some lotto tickets

Cliff Lee left a LOT of money on the table. I wonder how those Yanks fans that supposedly insulted Lee's wife feel now...

Besides Danks, they're not overwhelming.

It's funny. In 4 years, the Phillies will have the two worst contracts in baseball on one team (Lee and Howard). If you really think a pitcher three years removed from pitching himself back into the big leagues will be worth the money in five years, well then I have ice to sell you in Alaska.

Thank you Philly for getting him out of the AL. Again.

Reports are now saying the deal is worth about $120MM.

I would argue the Yankees and Rangers win this deal. Name me a pitcher who was worth a 5 year deal in his early 30's? Lee is exactly what the Rangers don't need for their team (i.ie a big contract that hinders them from making a worth wile deal when they're really close).

I don't see what trading any of them is going to accomplish with the mindset that we are trying to win the division this year. We can't trade any for significantly better major league talent.

Brett Gardner? I'd say Floyd is worth Gardner.

Plus, he's getting wasted by the Yankees because of Derek Jeter.

Okay. So who is the 4th starter? Who is the 5th starter until Peavy is back in July? All of this assumes you don't think Gardner didn't have a fluky year last year.
