Question on the Tigers...do they have any bad contracts after this year? Aren't Ordonez and Inge gone after this year?

Come on man, the Google isn't that hard to use.

No, their bad contracts end after this year. They have good money tied up in their good players, but start off at $72 million this offseason, $81 if they pick up the option on Valverde.

They did pare back a lot of salary last offseason, but not as much as they could have...they spent money to bring guys like Ordonez back.

As reference, Tigers 7 up on Twins in 2009 on Sept. 6. Didn't make playoffs ~

They went 11-15 after Sep. 6, which would be the same this year...86-76

Sox would have to go 18-10 to tie. Good luck with that.

Seems like this was a throw-away game for Leyland, as he didn't use Benoit.

When would he have used Benoit? They were losing by the 7th, he pitched two innings two days ago, and they have six straight games against the Sox & Indians coming up. I'm sure if they were up in the 8th, he would have pitched.

Sorry, meant the throw-away part with holding Verlander back and then going with Turner, Perry and Coke. I'm not complaining, if they pitch Verlander in this game, it's likely another win for them we'd have to make up the rest of the way. BTW, is Al Al expected back soon?

Speaking of Coke, these are his numbers in August as a reliever:

12 IP, 8 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 20 K

So much for converting him to a starter

Which is ironic, because it was being argued that Crain should have been used yesterday instead of Frasor, when we were three runs down instead of two.
