Um, I don't get it? We're poking fun at the Twins when our asses are going to be watching the playoffs from home right along with them. I don't get much solace in the fact they've been a little worse.

Then we'll get the patented "What's a Division Title worth when you don't do anything with it?" when the Tigers eventually don't win the World Series.

Is Hosmer the best player in our division right now? In terms of youth and potential?

Would you give up Danks and Floyd and Sergio for Hosmer right now? Straight up three for one??

Yes and yes.

Just learned that the Royals are the first team in league history to have 3 OFs with 40 or more doubles in the same season.

Joe Mauer out for the season with pneumonia. Maybe those Dunn & Rios contracts aren't even the worst deals in the divsion.

And only one of those outfielders is actually good and will be good for a while.

3-4 years ago everyone here was wishing they could get Cabrera from the Yankees and Frenchy wasn't even reasonable enough to be a crazy idea.

This season is Francouer's first above average season since 2007 (and he wasn't even great that year). Unless Francouer discovers the idea that making outs = bad, he will continue to be mediocre at best from an offensive perspective. Same goes for Cabrera. I don't see both of them doing this next season.

Alex Gordon is making Dayton Moore look really stupid for keeping him down in the minors for the majority of the past two seasons. That guy can play.

Tigers 6 outs away. Treadmill guy isn't going to make it. Trying to run a marathon during the game.

Tigers win the division.

Simply disagree. That guy was not going to be an effective player for the last 2 years. He'd have looked like Beckham.

Anticlimactic.

First division win since 1987 for Detroit.

Why was Leyland crying so much?

He was never given the chance to show otherwise really.

This. They kept exiling him back to the minors in '09 and '10 even though it was clear that there was nothing left for him to accomplish down there.

And it really wasn't like he was horrendous at the ML level. .344 wOBA in 08. .323 wOBA in 09. Then he pretty much got exiled to AAA last season in favor of Alberto Callaspo and Wilson Betemit.

Jim Leyland is a f***ing clown. Did he really just let Verlander throw almost 120 pitches? Let's win the division by 16 games instead of 15?

The dude throws 120 pitches every start, and seems to show no ill-effects.

Verlander is just a horse. Time to throw out this notion of limiting his pitch counts to that of mere mortals.

Is there any way Verlander does not get unanimous Cy Young?

I think the bigger question is will he win the MVP...

Yeah, that's also a good possibility. I was just thinking that there might be some homer who gives his vote to someone else.

Of course there will be. Weaver and Sabathia will both get a few votes.

MONEY IN THE BANK

From Elias: Justin Verlander got the Tigers back on track after their loss on Saturday by posting his 24th win of the season. Verlander is 16-3 this season in games that immediately followed a loss by his team. It's the most such wins in one season for any pitcher since Steve Carlton won 19 games following Phillies losses in 1972, when he went 27-10 for a 97-loss team.

The Royals will try to acquire two viable starting pitchers in the offseason. They are ultra-talented in terms of positional prospects. Not so much from a pitching standpoint.

I know that D1 isn't exactly a matchup for them since he has 1 year left pre-FA, but I've at least got to wonder...given that they no longer have Meche's deal to occupy themselves, and the White Sox have more starting pitching than they can use at the top level next year, esp. if they keep Buehrles.

The Twins are in a very tough spot right now. They've had an absolutely terrible season. Nathan, Cuddyer, and Kubel are all free agents. They owe Mauer, Morneau, Pavano, and Nishioka somewhere around $50 million next season. They don't have a lot in terms of prospects fast approaching the big leagues. On top of all of that, their pitching staff has been bad this year and it's really not in any position to get much better. On top of that, they have Jerry Owens II in CF for them. I didn't realize how bad Ben Revere is offensively. He makes Juan Pierre look like a power hitter.

Either they get creative or they go into a rebuild/retool mode.

And, either way, Bill Smith has done an absolutely horrendous job with that team.

It goes to show you that when your big contract players collapse, the franchise goes into the tank with it. They are screwed unless they get career bouncebacks from Mauer and Morneau.
