July 7, 201114 yr QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 7, 2011 -> 10:48 AM) I think that Beckham & Rios are both worse than Morel and Pierre. Pierre is like our 5th best hitter right now. Morel might be the 6th best, followed by Beckham, Rios, and Dunn. I might have Morel ranked above others, but I'm basing his numbers more on what he's done the past month and a half or so. Which still isn't anything to write home about but has been good signs of development. Beckham >>> Morel. Defense relative to their position is similar (if not favoring Beckham). And hitting, it isn't close.
July 7, 201114 yr QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jul 7, 2011 -> 08:59 AM) Beckham >>> Morel. Defense relative to their position is similar (if not favoring Beckham). And hitting, it isn't close. I figured that would be someone's argument. I like 3B defense over 2B defense but I won't argue this much. I think Beckham and Morel have both been better than Dunn and Rios for sure. Pretty sad. Two of our three highest paid offensive players are ranked as our two worst offensive players.
July 7, 201114 yr Beckham seems like an automatic out as do several others. Aside from the few "Beckham is officially a bust" posts he gets very little criticism compared to Pierre. Pierre actually gets a hit once in a while. If Beckham and Lexi and Rios and Dunn don't start knocking in runs, it's going to be a long weekend this weekend in Chicago. That's also assuming Paulie and CQ aren't in little slumps.

July 7, 201114 yr QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 7, 2011 -> 02:31 PM) Beckham seems like an automatic out as do several others. He actually has a few HRs and extra base hits. And a decent amount of RBIs. He's also playing gold glove caliber defense. Pierre on the other hand has lost his speed, is a terrible fielder with the weakest arm this side of the Cairo river, has no power, can't drive in runs other than this past week, and rarely hits it past the infield and gets the most ABs on the team. July 7, 201114 yr QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jul 7, 2011 -> 08:35 PM) Have you read anyone else's posts here for the past couple months? Yes I have. There's a constant hammering of Pierre outside of game threads. Becks gets some criticism in game threads where he's called a complete bust. He gets nowhere near the heat of Juan outside of the game threads when he's having another 0-fer, in fact, Becks isn't criticized much at all for his inept hitting this season. Maybe because he adds value to the team with his defense whereas there is virtually no value from Pierre, a washed up veteran with no tools.

This is where threads go to all hell. He asked me a question and I answered it, then there's a response completely off topic and boom! I do like Beckham's defense. Pierre hasn't done much stupid in left since April, has he? I know he has a rag arm. Like I said I'd rather we not have him, but we have tons of s***ty hitters right now, not just Juan.

July 7, 201114 yr QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 7, 2011 -> 02:31 PM) Beckham seems like an automatic out as do several others. Compared to a few others (Dunn and Rios), Beckham is not an easy out, but he falls into the Pierre/Morel/Quentin category of about .240-.260 type hitters who make a ton of outs. Quentin is in this category as well, but at least he can go nuts every now and then.
July 7, 201114 yr QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Jul 7, 2011 -> 12:15 AM) They were the same two guys last season saying Adam Dunn is a necessity for this team. And the year before saying the same about Chone Figgins.
July 8, 201114 yr For the rest of this series, regardless of matchups: C - AJ 1B - Konerko 2B - Beckham SS - Ramirez 3B - Morel LF - Pierre CF - Lillibridge RF - Quentin DH - Teahan Adam Dunn and Ales Rios simply have lost the right to be in the lineup, at least for the remainder of this series. Neither are hitting, neither are helping the team. Yes, the same case can be made, to different degree's, about Morel, Pierre, Lillibridge (of late), Quentin (in the last few weeks), Ramirez (in the last few weeks) and Teahan (in less at bats), but there's only so much that can be done. Obviously, I don't expect Guillen to do this - Dunn and Rios will both probably play in at least 2 of the remaining 3 games. As for the 2nd half of the season, I have no expectation that they will do the obvious and bring up Viceido, but he should be with the team post the all-star break and be batting 4th or 5th in the lineup everyday for the rest of the season (minus the occasional day off). I also want Mark Teahan getting regular at bats as well. My assumption and hope is that Dunn will get another 2-3 weeks after the break to figure things out, but if he doesn't have it going by August 1st (or so), I think he rides the bench for the rest of the season. He can't hit a baseball. That's not a good thing.
July 8, 201114 yr I vow not go to any more games this year if not a single person in management is fired over the ASB and/or Viciedo is not brought up in the next 10 days,
July 8, 201114 yr Sox are probably one of the two worst teams in majors right now. They are bad, they are slow, they don't hustle.....

Boring game. First sox game of the year for me. Might take my son to another game if I get a free ticket. But thats about it.

July 8, 201114 yr So the angels called up Trout today. Interesting to note that the Sox were deciding between Trout and Mitchell in 2009. Hard to fault them too much since Mitchell had a freak injury that may have cost him his shot at the bigs. However, had they chose Trout, where do you think he would be right now in our system?
July 8, 201114 yr We have the starting pitching (if Humber holds up and Peavy gets his fastball back), bullpen and overall good enough defense that it will be very difficult for us to fall completely out of the division race. We'll see.

Toiling away in the minors because Ozzie can't find a place to play him.

We'll see. I don't think the White Sox are bad enough to fall out of the divisional race. If someone gets hot (Cleveland or Detroit), sure the Sox could be 8 games out quickly, but I don't expect much to change with the current division - the Sox will hang around, play at or about .500 ball, and stay about 3-6 games back.
July 8, 201114 yr Author Buster_ESPN Buster Olney Multiple evaluators saying this: Market for relievers is going to be saturated by the deadline. Few good starters available; many relievers.
