OK Guys, to make an attempt at a fun projection poll I was hoping to get some votes on who you thought DV will best resemble in his first few years in a White Sox uniform, which we now know is a matter of not if but when. He has accomplished just about everything he can tool-wise in AAA and is tearing up the league hitting and with SLG%. I definitely see a resemblence to Miguel Cabrera in raw talent and not having it all together in the areas of work ethic (Vastly improved though), and plate discipline. Let´s make this a fun summer time poll. Just want to keep continuing to contribute to the recent positive upswing on the board and put in my 2 cents. Please let me now if you don´t think any of these comparisons hold water and who you would compare him to.

Good lord those are high standards.

He'll always be a more aggressive swinger than those guys. that will keep his Obp down. I'm gonna keep hoping for a more patient version of Vlad. Others have suggested Carlos lee.

Carlos Lee is a good comp. Both were 3b turned outfielders, both will always have a battle with the bulge. I think he'll be more like Lee than the above choices. If he develops more plate discipline, maybe he's like Maggs. I'll take Lee or Maggs, and so would Viciedo because both will make more than $100 million in their careers. If he's like the other guys mentioned, wow. You just can't project that on a just turned 22 year old. Its probably not fair to compare him or expect him to be like Lee or Maggs either.

That´s cool DA, I just wanted to make a positive, fun poll to hear opinions. Wasn´t really trying to get analytical sabermetric type projections just what people see and think of his talent potential. Thanx for chiming in anyway with Balta so far.

No one I believe is saying he can't be like those other guys, but its very rare and when Miguel Cabrera was 22 he was already an established star, of course he has a lot of issues and its very debatable how long he can remain one. Just as long as he's not like the 2011 version of Adam Dunn.

I don't recall hearing anything bad about his work ethic. I remember some speculation when the Sox signed him that because he was a bit heavy that he was lazy, but I've never read anything to confirm that.

Albert Pujols???? Lololol, really get real. I would say closer to Carlos Quentin

All I know is this- he'll be a good hitter...in another city.

:(

Julio Franco :)

maybe an adrian beltre

Vlad or Soriano. Not the best plate discipline but an uncanny ability to cover pitcher's pitches way off the plate and still drive the ball.

Gee...who knows...but it sure as hell would be nice to find out for God sakes. The only Sox player I can ever remember who had the ball jump off their bat like that was Dick Allen.

Right handed Ryan Howard.

To not bring him up for the start of our long run of Central Division games is inexcusable.

The lineup we have is very weak heading into these games. We could use his bat.

As far as his career, I'd expect him to be at the worst, Lexi, at the best, an all-star.

That's a really good comp I feel...too bad he can't field like AB...

Or maybe a Nellie Cruz?

Edited by iamshack

Well, considering that he is basically hitting the same as De Aza and De Aza plays better defense and can steal bases, right now De Aza would help the Sox more.

Viciedo is likely to be a pretty good DH. He'll never make an all-star team. That's my prediction. A good hitter, not a great one. Maybe, he will last in the outfield for a while before he gets moved to DH.

For comparison, I will go with Jose Guillen.

Umm, except those 60 extra points of slugging...

Check the slugging pct. and the age.

And the fact that Dayan is apparently NOT AWFUL IN THE OF.

Quite frankly, you could probably use both of them.

De Aza

Morel

Quentin

Konerko

Dayan

AJ

Alexei

Beckham

Pierre

Pierre would DH. At least he looks to have some semblance of thought, unlike Rios.

Kirby Puckett, with more power.

Edited by Stan Bahnsen

You know, I've never thought of using Pierre at DH, but that wouldn't be a bad idea. Viciedo can play LF this way.

Yikes on this poll. A few people are going to be really disappointed.

I'll say Troy Glaus, minus a few OBP points. Jose Guillen is another good comparison. Vernon Wells also.

Frank Thomas but shorter, with less patience, not as high of a batting average, not as much power, and a worse eye, but with lighter skin, curly hair, and freckles, and not as cool of a nickname. Also he doesn't smell as good.

To be honest I see a lot of Carlos lee in him
