I think it is pure speculation. Just indicating what teams have holes at 3rd.

Yeah the Sox only get mentioned because then he could "stay" in Chicago.

And because they have a gaping offensive hole at 3B.

They simply just looked at the fact that we aren't getting good 3B offensive production, and thus tied us to an available 3B player. Nothing to it.

I wouldn't be surprised if Kenny had already inquired on him.

Aramis does not want to leave Chicago. He could leave the cubs and stay in Chicago.

 

If the cubs are looking to move Garza, they have major finanacial issues and moving Ramirez saves them a good chunck of change here.

 

The cubs also may want to bring him back next year so something could be worked out....

Its been reported multiple times that he would want any team that trades for him to void the option as part of compensation for waiving his no trade clause. So that is really not an issue. But he would only be a rental and projects to be a Type B FA.

Its the difference between getting a multi-year deal at 33 instead of 34. I think his agents probably have some metrics that say he is better off hitting free agency this season I would guess, especially given the uptake in production he has had over the last six weeks.

Yeah, but at this point in his career I highly doubt he gets a multi year deal that exceeds the possible 16.5 mil he will recieve next year. IMO its a pretty dumb move, he isnt going to be setting the free agent world on fire at 33 or 34, teams arent going to be handing him 4 and 5 year deals

He's 33. Injury prone. Defense has been eroding for years. He wouldn't get anymore than a 3-year deal, IMO. But hey, I'd definitely take him for two months if he dropped that option.

Hi, first post here after reading for a couple months.

 

IF ARam would accept a trade to the Sox and IF his willingness to drop his option are both true (and I think those are both big IFs), then this smells like a 3-way trade waiting to happen. Find some team that both wants Edwin Jackson and has prospects the Cubs would like [i don't keep up with other teams' prospects, but maybe someone else can find a fit]. Between the 3rd team and the Cubs, they could send cash to the Sox to make it work. Or instead of kicking in some cash, maybe one of those teams takes Teahen.

If the cubs are as cash strapped as they appear to be. Ramirez to the Sox could save them a ton of money. If the Sox are not taking on money which appears to be the case it is an irrelevant conversation.

Aramis doesn't strike me as the kind of player willing to bet on himself by taking good guaranteed cash up front and putting off free agency another year risking a down season and a poor return in free agency as opposed to going for the multi-year deal in a weak market. I could see him getting $30M fairly easily, all it takes is one team and that team is typically out there year in and year out.
