This is really misleading though, since Ivan Nova gave them 28 starts, 165 innings, and a 3.7 ERA in his first full big league season.

It seems to happen to all teams that become financial powerhouses. Look at the Red Sox with Lackey/Crawford/Drew, the Yankees with all those bad starting Pavano/Brown/Wright/Burnett. It's like teams forget what got them there and they just start throwing money around because they can, not thinking about what they are spending on.
