July 22, 201213 yr Paterno family go away, it is about the victims now not you. Paterno's are the the most self centered people I have ever seen. Protect Joe Pa at all cost.
July 23, 201213 yr QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jul 22, 2012 -> 11:21 AM) Paterno family go away, it is about the victims now not you. Paterno's are the the most self centered people I have ever seen. Protect Joe Pa at all cost. Is there anything more telling about the real Joe Paterno than the reaction of his family to all of this?
July 23, 201213 yr Penn State University will be hit with fines in excess of $30 million as part of "significant, unprecedented penalties" expected to be announced Monday by the National Collegiate Athletic Association, a source familiar with the case told CNN on Sunday. While the school's football program will not face the so-called "death penalty" that would have prevented the team from playing in the fall, the school might have preferred a one-year suspension because of the severity of the scholarship losses, postseason sanctions and other penalties, the source said. That seems like a pretty hefty fine for an athletic dept.
July 23, 201213 yr QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Jul 22, 2012 -> 10:15 AM) http://espn.go.com/college-football/story/...rsity-crew-site Glad it's down. Go assemble elsewhere, idiots. 2 other things: NCAA to announce sanctions Monday. http://espn.go.com/college-football/story/...caa-source-says Another stupid f***ing quote from the Paterno family: The Paterno family issued a statement only hours later saying the statue's removal "does not serve the victims of Jerry Sandusky's horrible crimes or help heal the Penn State community." Can they just, stop existing? QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jul 22, 2012 -> 11:21 AM) Paterno family go away, it is about the victims now not you. Paterno's are the the most self centered people I have ever seen. Protect Joe Pa at all cost. It's still only one mans opinion right? Not like he was a former FBI director with 267 pages of evidence. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 22, 2012 -> 07:12 PM) Good. July 23, 201213 yr QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 22, 2012 -> 09:30 PM) That seems like a pretty hefty fine for an athletic dept. Fine them whatever the hell they want. Plus it's a Penn State fine anyway, they'll pull money from wherever. Glad they are getting torn apart for this. The systematic failure deserves a punishment like this, plus bowl/scholarships and whatever else they come up with.
July 23, 201213 yr 60 million fine 4 year bowl/postseason ban Reduction from 25 to 15 scholarships per year for 4 years All wins vacated from 1998 to 2011 5 year probation period

July 23, 201213 yr QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Jul 23, 2012 -> 08:11 AM) 60 million fine 4 year bowl/postseason ban Reduction from 25 to 15 scholarships per year for 4 years All wins vacated from 1998 to 20115 year probation period Somewhere down in Florida, Bobby Bowden is doing the happy dance.
July 23, 201213 yr QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 23, 2012 -> 07:42 AM) So...is that worse than the team going away for a full year? I think it is worse. My jaw dropped. Penn St may never be the same.
July 23, 201213 yr Here's the Paterno statement before they make it, they would like to remind you that these sanctions "do not serve the victims of Jerry Sandusky's horrible crimes or help heal the Penn State community." BTW, way to kick Paterno and family with the vacated wins just for good measure. Good for them. Edited July 23, 201213 yr by IlliniKrush
July 23, 201213 yr Penn State should have lost all its home games this season. Dont give the stupid a chance to rally around the team.
July 23, 201213 yr QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jul 23, 2012 -> 09:52 AM) Penn State should have lost all its home games this season. Dont give the stupid a chance to rally around the team. The one thing they were clearly trying to do was to avoid punishing the current players who had no idea about this when they signed up, and I can tolerate that. Penn State can have games, the money from those games just goes to fund independent sex-abuse agencies.
July 23, 201213 yr I bet Curley, Spanier, and Schultz have a perpetual state of dry mouth after Sandusky was found guilty and now this. They are hung out to dry before their trials even started
July 23, 201213 yr @adamhogecbs: The Big Ten will be announcing their own sanctions in the 10AM CT teleconference. @adamhogecbs: I'm guessing, but Big Ten sanctions might include bowl payouts and money from the Big Ten Network. Edited July 23, 201213 yr by Athomeboy_2000

July 23, 201213 yr JeffRice247 @JeffRice247 Paterno's win total drops from 409 to 308. He is officially 12th all-time. Sweet.
July 23, 201213 yr QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 23, 2012 -> 09:07 AM) JeffRice247 @JeffRice247 Paterno's win total drops from 409 to 308. He is officially 12th all-time. Sweet. If he vacated 111 wins, this guy has math problems.
July 23, 201213 yr QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 23, 2012 -> 09:07 AM) So where does the $60 million go to? The NCAA said the $60 million was equivalent to the average annual revenue of the football program. The NCAA ordered Penn State to pay the penalty funds into an endowment for "external programs preventing child sexual abuse or assisting victims and may not be used to fund such programs at the university."

July 23, 201213 yr Sports Illustrated @SInow Mike McQueary was the quarterback for Joe Paterno's last official win. (h/t @joemoore10)
