Going to Nashville for the first time July 9-12. Any suggestions?

No need for any to be honest. Just walk around and you'll find s*** to do. I don't remember the name of any place I went to there but it's one of my favorite city's I've ever been to.

Rowand was probably downtown on and around Broadway. There's tons of places to go. Geared toward tourists, but still fun. East Nashville, on the other side of the river is more artsy and definitely not as touristy. There's also the area around Vanderbilt, and a full scale replica of the Parthenon.

Headed for Eugene, Oregon for a wedding on 4th of July weekend. Any recommendations gladly accepted!

 

 

Going to Denver in two weeks. Added a trip down to Mesa Verde and the cliff dwellings. This is new for us and should be excellent.

 

Mesa Verde is great, but be prepared for the fact that you can no longer walk around in some of the bigger structures anymore because they were wearing down too quickly with all the abuse. Still can see them all, and walk in some.

 

If you want the cooler experience with those, find a way to get off the heavily used trails. Get out further into the backcountry, where there are lots of other archaelogical sites left open for exploration. It just means you need to be able to walk a lot farther.

 

Also, you can get a similar experience in Canyon De Chelly or Chaco Culture with a LOT fewer people, if you are willing to drive an extra couple hours.

Damn, the entire state is just gorgeous. Make sure you visit the coast...very underrated stuff.

I don't remember trail names, it's been some years since I was there. But I am sure you can Google for information about backcountry trails in the park. There are probably whole books about hiking in and around Mesa Verde. Just bear in mind, those won't be wide, paved nature trails like you have going to The Palace (the biggest, most-visited dwelling). They will be narrow, steep trails on tough terrain. As long as you know that going in, and make sure you are well-packed for the hike (hydration, food, etc.), you'll enjoy it.

Thanks for the info. You beat me to it. We did sign up for some of the ranger guided tours. There was a twilight version that included private tours (groups of 5 or smaller) for some of the backcountry ones.

I need a f***ing vacation, took zero time off when my kid was born, didnt take a honeymoon so I could work. Jesus I need to unplug.

Loveless Cafe - load up on biscuits, go on a weekday, any wait is worth it especially for breakfast. Amazing stuff

City House - get the pizza with the belly ham, one of the best pizza's (yes, I said it) you will ever eat. It's legit, named one of the best pizza's in the country by Food Network. Everything there is awesome

Vanderbilt Hospital ER is highly recommended if you get a scratched cornea after 10pm.

Still weird seeing this place get publicity. I've eaten there more times than I can remember. My ex's cousin is the chef that owns City House. I will attest that it is awesome.

Cumberland Falls was an incredible trip. Just amazing views, plus took in the only Moonbow visable in the western hemisphere. Also got out to places like the Sky Bridge and Natural Bridge. Kentucky is just an incredibly beautiful state.

Weekend or during the week? Do you like outdoors stuff? Drinkers? Its gonna be hot and humid.

I was suppose to go on a Vegas and then camping trip for a week with friends this month. Then that fell apart because of life and other commitments. Then we were going to have a long weekend in either Toronto or DC in late August which just happened to fall on my birthday. I was pushing for Toronto, another was pushing DC b/c he just had a baby and his wife's family is from the area. He was going to go a week earlier to see them. Of course the other friends caved and said DC would be easier. Boring.

 

Then slowly, and thankfully, the others had no interest and those plans fell through. Now I find out today I'll be spending that very weekend with my parents in Atlanta helping my sister move with her boyfriend from Boca. Of course the Braves arent in town so there goes the idea of hitting up a game that Friday night.

 

So I'm basically asking does anyone have a good, nice, local type place to recommend for a Friday dinner? Something casual and relaxed because Thursday and Friday afternoon will be spent driving 9 hours and moving them in. Being in Orlando, I'm in the chain restaurant capital of the southeast so hopefully looking for something different.

We're both poker players so the casinos are always a backup option but my wife has never been to STL and I haven't been since I was 10 so we'd like to know what is cool to see. Historic sites generally interest us.

It was my bachelor party so the memories are hazy, but there was a very nice casino in downtown STL we went to, way fancier than you would expect in the Midwest. That's all I got though, not many historic sites that weekend.

Well, you can go up in the Arch, but people who are claustrophobic tend to not like the ride up. The Anheuser-Busch brewery tour is about an hour and then free beers after that. There’s also several smaller breweries if you are interested in that. Forest Park is one of the largest urban parks in the US. The the zoo, art museum, history museum, science center and the Muny opera are all in the park. You could check out a Cardinals game, or there are 2 independent league teams in the area as well. Laumeier Sculpture Park is pretty unique. The Delmar Loop in University City has the St. Louis walk of fame - there’s really quite a few historical figures from St. Louis. If you are looking to play poker, I would recommend Ameristar casino, but its out in St. Charles, so it may not be near where you will be staying. Cahokia Mounds is also outside of the city in Illinois, but interesting if you’re into history.

In Forest Park, we may check out the history museum. We do enough zoos with the kids, and my wife it not into art museums.

 

Wife also won't do baseball games unless it's the Sox. I can't even get her to go see the Sox AAA team play.

 

Will look into the Delmar Loop. That sounds interesting.

 

We are actually staying in St. Charles less than a mile from Ameristar, so we probably end up in their poker room at least once.

The arch sucked. Totally sucked. And that is coming from someone who loves heights. It is cramped, it is crowded, it is congested. The elevator up has no air conditioning... IN ST LOUIS! The view is of nothing. I was upset I wasted hours waiting for a time and then doing it.

 

This is coming from someone who has loved places like the top of the Sears Tower, the CN Tower, The Stratosphere in Vegas, top of the Natural Bridge in Red River Gorge, etc.
