Someone tweeted Sox have signed Jose Lopez and assigned him to Charlotte, can anyone confirm this?

Good move.

There is your backup infielder.

Goodbye Huddy? Probably not, but good bye Olmedo certainly

Wow, that was out of nowhere. He's an upgrade over Olmedo.

With Morel going down, that sure helps.

I think it would be Hudson. Olmedo can play SS. But I also think it will be in September making it a moot point.

He's really gone down hill in what should be his prime ..Seems like a typical Sox player with that ugly OBP. KW hoping he can get back to where he once was.

Still better than Hudson.

And an even bigger upgrade over Hudson.

This was a predictable and smart move. Kenny has really been acting when given the chance this year. It's as if a huge roadblock to any move involving the active roster was removed at some point during the offseason.........

I would have preferred Fontenot, but I really can't complain too much about this move.

I'd still like the Sox to sign Fontenot. Lopez + Fontenot >> Hudson + Olmedo.

He was a beast in '08 and '09:

YEAR TEAM GP AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI BB SO SB CS AVG OBP SLG OPS OWAR

2008 SEA 159 644 80 191 41 1 17 89 27 67 6 3 .297 .322 .443 .765 2.9

2009 SEA 153 613 69 167 42 0 25 96 24 69 3 3 .272 .303 .463 .766 2.1

What a nice favor to the Charlotte Knights.

Jose Lopez is remarkably bad.

At some point we have to start exercising caution with the roster moves. You don't want a huge portion of the team being fluid. Lots of pieces have shuffled around this year, from the bench to some very big contributors. Weird dugout vibes can be a product of all of this type of thing.

I think the exact opposite would be true. If you keep the same people that close together for an 8 month period of time, people tend to wear on others. With new people, you get new experiences and new people to talk to, keeping the mood fresh as the year goes on.

There is also the risk of losing a good clubhouse guy who is not a good baseball player. In times like that, a good manager will keep heads level and keep the atmosphere loose.

Love the signing of Lopez, but those 2008-2009 that was back before the steroids testing. No where near that player

They were testing for steroids well before 2008.

I don't think it's an issue. The core hasn't changed and Ventura plays the everyday player a lot.

He was awful in Colorado a couple years ago.

You just don't want to see Hudson possibly removed from the roster :)

Someone get him a ticket to Toronto.
