At some point you have to wonder if there is someone better than Cooper. Plus Sox scouting can't provide a future catcher or 3b. I think AJ and Youk will be here, That's a lot of money invested in old guys but the alternatives are worse.

Hudson's not running into something to tie the game there, which is what you need, as you're probably not getting 3 consecutive hits. Those other 3 have a chance. You don't let another AAA player make your last out.

I saw the Prince HR from my seat like 5 minutes before he hit it. A Tigers fan sitting near me told someone that he hasn't seen Fielder get a hit in person. I thought about leaving my seat right then to get a head start on bathroom/concession lines instead of dealing with it between half-innings. Between Leyson and myself, 0-2.

I'm ready to lose our final game against Detroit and get on with the final couple weeks. Aside from the obligatory 3 losses to the Royals, the other games should be interesting. The question is can we overcome those 4 defeats? We'll probably have to play .700 ball in the other games.

 

I wonder if Lopez and Olmeda are going to play tomorrow and Flowers? I guess it doesn't matter who Robin plays vs. Detroit and KC. Just get it over with and move on to Minnie.

At the end of this year, unfortunately we're going to be left with the strong and lasting impression we would/should have won the division had we invested money in a more experienced manager, instead of looking at it as a "throwaway/developmental" year.

 

 

A win tonight is huge for the Sox. Big difference between 2 games up and being tied. Especially considering the momentum the Tigers will have. No matter what happens tonight and through the rest of the season, it will be remembered that the Sox couldn't beat the teams they needed to beat when they really needed to. Had they beat the Royals over the weekend like they should have, things would have looked different going into this series.

 

If this team makes the playoffs, they had better make some adjustments. They look like absolute crap right now.

I think he called it "playing smarter". I thought that Cabrera appeared to be a little less hobbled last night. Was that true?

 

In fact, you have to wonder if a team couldn't successfully bunt down the first base line, with Fielder over there. I know that he's pretty athletic considering his weight, but he probably doesn't move that well charging a ball and fielding it.

We had 3 left handed speedsters in the lineup last night. De Aza, Wise and Hudson all could have tried dragging the ball down the first base line. Still no bunts to either side of the infield. ?????

DeAza tried to bunt once and missed it.

There were a number of bunt attempts last night - they just missed them or hit them foul.

 

Only two RV decisions last night really upset me. One is pitching Santiago there, when you just know you want him for Friday over Liriano. The other was, how was Beckham not PH'ing in the 9th? I get playing Hudson to start the game against Scherzer, but in that situation, with a hot bat, Beckham is a much better choice than Hudson (who has barely been playing and looked bad at the plate that game).

I'm sorry, but that is the most ridiculous logic I have ever heard.

 

You utilize your best resources in the most high-leverage situations. You do not anticipate more high-leverage situations potentially happening later when it is already the 7th inning. We were already down 3-1. I could POTENTIALLY buy some of that logic if you are tied or you have the lead, but you are already losing, you cannot afford to go down further at that point, considering the way the offense has been performing recently.

 

I don't care if Veal has faced Fielder twice already this series. Lefties are 0-20 against him this year. You don't fix what's not broken when you're already losing 3-1.

 

I just don't understand how you can devote your entire adult life to this game and not have a better understanding of it than this. It isn't often that I presume to understand more than the professionals, but this is yet another decision of his that is absolutely inexplicable.

to make matters worse, Veal faced Fielder in the 9th and retired him.

I absolutely can't stand Septimo. He is awful. I've been saying it all year. Omogrosso doesn't look like a mlb reliever either. The wheels seem to be coming off, but the good news is, after today, the White Sox can finally put Detroit in the rear-view mirror for good!!!! But lets end this series with a White Sox win and then play winning baseball the rest of the way.
