Makes more sense now that you've explained it. I thought that you lived way up north, so I figured rotting wouldn't be a problem. Shotgun season is now over here in Indiana. Got a buck 30 minutes into opening day, then the last day I see two monster bucks that I'm not allowed to legally shoot.... That's always how it goes.

That sucks. Shotgun season just opened back up in Illinois today. Unfortunately I won't be able to make it this year. There are some monster bucks where we hunt.

 

If you hadn't taken that first one, you would have never seen the last two. My brother-in-law did the exact opposite of you last year - saw a nice buck the first day - but he didn't shoot, assuming he'd see another good one later. Nope.

Every year a few deer are injured and are able to elude even the best trackers. Assuming you took a shot clearly within your ability level I wouldn't beat yourself up too much over it. There are a couple vegans here and I appreciate their position on hunting animals. Our corporate ranching isn't humane for making those burgers. The vasy majority of humans on this planet at carnivors. Killling animals is something we do with great frequency. We've lost touch with our food supply when we aren't willing to kill an animal ourselves.

 

How many here would be willing to take an orange traffic cone, flip it upside down, jam a chicken's head through the opening and cut off the head, clean, and cook the bird? Yet we can enjoy those chicken nuggets.

One of the biggest mistakes a hunter can make is hurry to find a deer that they have just shot. If you didn't drop it right on the spot, it's going to run. If it's not dead yet and you walk up on it, it'll get up and run for days, meaning you will never find it. Thankfully I've never had that issue, nor ever seen it happen to any of the hunters I know. I've never had a deer run more than 40 yards from where I shot it.

Man, f*** Metra and/or the BNSF. Their service history blows. On top of being routinely late, at least 5 times a year some massive problem halts the entire system for hours at a time, including tonight. And it always seems to happen right at rush hour.

There are times when you stop pursuing the animal because you just drive it to fearfully run from you until it takes its last gasp. If you wait a while, perhaps overnight, it will lie down and relax as it perishes. I don't hunt because I don't particularly like either one of those outcomes, but yeah, that's the logic.

The worst Metra problem is when some asshole steps in front of one. No trains move for about two or three hours because they have to scrape him off the tracks, then do a full police report. If you are gonna kill yourself, don't f*** up everyone else's day.

I've never had bad problems on Metra, but I only ride twice a week.

Ya when I took the metra everyday to work I had problems with it all the time.

I got into it awhile ago at work with a guy who hunts. I don't get it and asked why he felt the need to kill innocent animals just minding their business. He got to a point where he said I wasn't "manly" enough to get it, blah blah blah.

He's pretty simple minded.

$75 is like 4 items at Sams or Costco. I love going to those stores, but spending 3-400 bucks every few weeks is a little ridiculous.

Once in awhile I'll go to just get a few things and go in the express lane and it never fails I get behind someone with over 20 items. Workers don't say anything and I don't blame them. I think if that happens, an extra $10 fee is in order.
