May 20, 201312 yr Even with the advancements in early warning systems and reinforced buildings, there isn't much you can do against a tornado this big and powerful. Watching the Weather Channel right now and they are saying one school had 75 people in it and as of now, only 30 are accounted for.
May 20, 201312 yr QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ May 20, 2013 -> 05:09 PM) Even with the advancements in early warning systems and reinforced buildings, there isn't much you can do against a tornado this big and powerful. Watching the Weather Channel right now and they are saying one school had 75 people in it and as of now, only 30 are accounted for. I hope for the best that all will be found safe.
May 21, 201312 yr Estimated 30 kids dead from the school. Can't imagine the overall death toll will be less than 100.
May 21, 201312 yr Those are some impressive air shots. Giant metal trucks and industrial equipment tossed a mile or so. Everything in the way just leveled.
May 21, 201312 yr Weather anchor of the local FOX station in Louisville has family living in Moore, OK. His brother was at work at the time and out of the path of the storm. The rest of the family survived in a below-ground shelter they had built 6 months ago. House and cars totally destroyed.
May 21, 201312 yr QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 21, 2013 -> 09:09 AM) Death toll jumps from 91 down to 24, not really sure how that happens. Apparently the coroner's office counted some casualties multiple times amidst the confusion. Of the now 24, seven are children. Better news, but still terrible.
May 21, 201312 yr QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 21, 2013 -> 08:09 AM) Death toll jumps from 91 down to 24, not really sure how that happens. After some of the award winning coverage we've all been treated to in recent times, resurrections should surprise no one. Edited May 21, 201312 yr by Swingandalongonetoleft

May 21, 201312 yr QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 21, 2013 -> 12:21 PM) Kevin Durant donated $1 million to the Red Cross for tornado relief Good, because according to Westboro Baptist Church it is all his fault.... A prominent member of the Westboro Baptist Church is drawing a link between the Oklahoma tornado's devastation and a local team's support for openly gay NBA star Jason Collins. Fred Phelps Jr., the son of Westboro Baptist Church minister Fred Phelps, tweeted the following: @WBCFredJr: OK Thunder's Durant flips God by praising f** Collins. God smashes OK. You do the math. #GodH8sf**s #f**sDoomNations #FearGod #GodH8sU @WBCFredJr: God's wonderful wrath in Oklahoma reminds me: #GodCursesUForf**Marriage #GodIsYourTerrorist #GodWillRepay #GodAvengesHisPeople #GodH8sU Edited May 21, 201312 yr by Athomeboy_2000
May 21, 201312 yr QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 21, 2013 -> 12:21 PM) Kevin Durant donated $1 million to the Red Cross for tornado relief And didnt publicize it. Some celebs would probably have "the donation" televised.
May 21, 201312 yr QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 21, 2013 -> 03:22 PM) And didnt publicize it. Some celebs would probably have "the donation" televised. I hate people that publicize donations/charity work UNLESS it's done with the intent to bring exposure to a cause.

May 22, 201312 yr What about the 94 year young woman whose home was destroyed by the 1999 and 2013 tornadoes? Wow. And she was smiling for the cameras and taking it all in stride. I guess that attitude is how you live to be 94.

As someone who raised money for a living, the named donations helped the organization more than those without. It's the bandwagon affect. People think that if X thinks it is a good cause, than they will trust you as well. I can mulitiply a recognizable name or position's donation a lot easier than a no name donation. I talked more than a few people into allowing us to publicize the donation who wished to remain anonymous. So it isn't always the person involved.

You talked them into it to help publicize a cause, and that's cool. i have no issue with that. It's the ones who do it to show how awesome they are tat I have an issue with.

They said the chances of her house being hit by an f4 tornado twice was like 1 in a trillion. Play the lotto, lady.

Breaks your heart to think the little dog was stuck there for so long. Then he gets out and doesn't even look like he needs water right away.
June 1, 201312 yr There is another large tornado on the ground right now just south of OKC, a few miles north of Moore.
