August 8, 201312 yr QUOTE (Kalapse @ Aug 8, 2013 -> 06:35 PM) A team can waive, at most, 7 players a day in August. That too, just saying there is a reason Rios wasn't put on immediately.
August 8, 201312 yr QUOTE (southside hitman @ Aug 8, 2013 -> 11:29 AM) Cleveland? Maybe he wanted him to clear waivers. In that case, this is much ado over nothing. They did just DFA Mark Reynolds but Rios doesnt play the positions Reynolds does.
August 8, 201312 yr QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Aug 8, 2013 -> 01:40 PM) They did just DFA Mark Reynolds but Rios doesnt play the positions Reynolds does. But they could move Swisher to 1st and have Rios play RF where Swisher is currently...
August 8, 201312 yr QUOTE (southside hitman @ Aug 8, 2013 -> 01:42 PM) But they could move Swisher to 1st and have Rios play RF where Swisher is currently... I thought Swisher was playing 1B and Drew Stubbs was in RF.
August 8, 201312 yr QUOTE (southside hitman @ Aug 8, 2013 -> 01:42 PM) But they could move Swisher to 1st and have Rios play RF where Swisher is currently... This season, Nick Swisher has played 18 games in RF, 70 at 1B, and 17 at DH.
August 8, 201312 yr QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 8, 2013 -> 01:44 PM) This season, Nick Swisher has played 18 games in RF, 70 at 1B, and 17 at DH. Damn there goes that theory. I just saw that play where the ball goes off the wall and between his legs in RF. Gets me every time haha
August 8, 201312 yr QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 8, 2013 -> 11:45 AM) Neal Cotts coming back from the Rangers..... That's the "Handsome Neal Cotts" to you, Rock
August 8, 201312 yr QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 8, 2013 -> 06:45 PM) Neal Cotts coming back from the Rangers..... Your wording is bad.
August 8, 201312 yr QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 8, 2013 -> 01:48 PM) That's the "Handsome Neal Cotts" to you, Rock LOL, he's a friend of mine so a guy can dream. Texas would be a good trading partner if they were desperate enough to fill Cruz's position.
August 8, 201312 yr QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 8, 2013 -> 11:52 AM) LOL, he's a friend of mine so a guy can dream. Texas would be a good trading partner if they were desperate enough to fill Cruz's position. I used to see him and Jenks on the northside quite a bit around '05-'06 I always liked him.

August 8, 201312 yr QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Aug 8, 2013 -> 01:57 PM) Also they just extended Ryan Raburn and he plays RF too. Yep. It's basically Rangers, Pirates or bust IMO. Anyone else would be a complete shocker
August 8, 201312 yr Hopefully get something in return, If not let him go and bring Garcia up! Addition by subtraction. Edited August 8, 201312 yr by Soxfest
August 8, 201312 yr QUOTE (Soxfest @ Aug 8, 2013 -> 07:02 PM) Hopefully get something in return, If not let him go and bring Garcia up! There's no point in just letting him go. Edited August 8, 201312 yr by Buehrle>Wood
August 8, 201312 yr There's no point in just letting him go. 1) Get Garcia in the lineup and let him make adjustments at the major league level. He has nothing to prove at AAA. 2) Get $15 million off the books, and go about trying to fix 1B or 3B.

He has nothing to prove at AAA. 2) Get $15 million off the books, and go about trying to fix 1B or 3B. 1) They want Garcia in CF. 2) we have enough money off the books already that we aren't likely to spend it all.

He has nothing to prove at AAA. 2) Get $15 million off the books, and go about trying to fix 1B or 3B. There was interest in him this trade deadline but our asking price was too high. Trade him this winter to get at least something back or gamble he has a good start next year and trade him at the 2014 deadline.

August 8, 201312 yr Like somebody said earlier, Hahn allegedly wanted a return of prospects for Rios before the trade deadline. In Hahn's world, he might look stupid just letting him go for salary relief now.

August 8, 201312 yr As much as I'd like to get Rios' contract off the books, I hope Hahn doesn't let him go for nothing. Something about him trying to obtain an exorbitant package for him in return a week ago only to be followed up with him essentially "giving up" and letting him go for nothing, makes me worry about how he may be perceived by other GMs in the future and if it could negatively affect him in trying to make deals in the future.
