He may be, but a) a decline from an above-average player can still be a useful player and b) when less than half of the balls that he should be getting hits on are not falling for hits, it's tough to judge

I'd rather look at line drive percentage. BABIP can be deceiving if you think it's unlucky if the guy is popping everything up , or routine fly balls or weak ground outs. A lousy BABIP sometimes means its just that lousy hitting.
