That would be another interesting question...what if the White Sox were relocated to somewhere in the Caribbean/Mexico/Cuba/Venezuala/San Juan, etc. Would you still root for them if they were located outside of the US?

 

Or, if in instead of having players from all over the world, the US made an agreement with the Cuban government that all Cuban players could participate, travel and play on this one professional team and compete in the US and Canada for 81 travel/road dates per year.

I kind of blame the Blackhawks. For their last few playoff runs, I've tried watching baseball directly after a Hawks game and was just bored, I couldn't do it.

Well let's face it, any baseball game is boring compared to playoff hockey.

Where do u live? Why the heck would want the White Sox to leave Chicago? That's insane. They've been playing there since about 1900. WTF? With all due respect, I've never read something so horrible from a Sox fan. Wanting them to move???

If the Sox moved, what probably happened is Chicago and/or Illinois wouldn't put up enough cash for a publicly financed stadium and some other municipality f***ed over their taxpayers (like Cobb County just did) while the ownership group pocketed all the revenue, in which case in no way would I support that. What would be the point of that?

I would probably still be a fan if the Sox moved and their name/history moved with the team to Portland/Nashville/San Antonio, etc, because at the end of the day, that would still be the White Sox, which is the only MLB team I've really ever cared for. However, I would prefer a situation where the Sox team would move and the history/name would stay in Chicago and the team developed a new identity in their new city (i.e. Sonics to OKC). If this happened, I would probably just stop watching MLB.

 

Also, I think eventually most Chicagoans would adopt the Cubs as their primary baseball team. The Bears and Cardinals rivalry used to be just as fierce as Bears/Packers, and now five decades later, most Chicagoans are oblivious to the fact that Chicago had two NFL teams.

 

Still, the A's, Rays, and maybe the Indians are more likely relocation candidates.

I haven't seen football or hockey at the highest level, but have seen college and amateur hockey (NAHL), and I've also seen an NBA and several MLB games. There's just something really fun, special, and relaxing about watching baseball live. On the contrary, I think it's a lot harder to watch the games on TV if there's no vested interest.

Meh...I'd have a had time. I have a hard enough time now staying interested with the Sox blowing that last handful of years. Probably would follow my local team a bit more...and still have spring training. It's hard to say. I'd probably delve deeper into Sun Devil baseball....

I don't either. It would be the ultimate irony if he did buy the Sox after Reinsdorf passes away though.

 

I also don't see any situation in which Cuban would move a team. He wants to own a baseball team, but he has never indicated that he'd move them.

I dont even think the White Sox current ownership structure would interest Cuban. Reinsdorf is majority owner, but it isnt like he owns 49 percent. I would think Cuban would want a big stake in ownership

From what I understand JR is probably a majority owner by now. There have been stories about him buying up the minority owners as they have wanted to sell. For some reason I have it in my head that one estimate was as high as 80% ownership. Can anyone else verify/remember that?

Wish I had seen this sooner. I have a hard time believing I'd follow baseball after that. I'd be pretty devastated.
