And that's a make 'em sweat White Sox winner

The Hound had it working tonight. Key to his success obviously will be control and command -- didn't walk anyone until the "non intentional intentional" to V-Mart. Breaking stuff looked sharp.

Tough night at the plate for most of the Sox but Sanchez and Flowers came through and it was enough. Good job by Petricka with the 4 out save.

Avi had a tough night at the plate (and on the bases) but aquitted himself well in RF. Sanchez continues to play an elite 2B. He makes hard plays looks easy. He has the range Gordon can only dream about and his hands are just as good if not better from what I've seen. Rarely juggles or bobbles a ball.

I like what I am seeing this September. Young guys are coming in and holding their own and most of the core pieces are playing well. Certainly a much improved team entering the offseason than last season.

Very nice

One of these teams will have to win the division, but, in the meantime, let's drive both the Tigers and the Royals out of the wildcard race.

Glad to hear Sanchez's defense looks better then what it did his first few games

Speaking of defense, I heard an inning on satellite, and the Tigers announcers were raving about Semien's D at 3rd.

Just looking at MLB.com, they have highlights on D from both of them.

He had a couple of plays that you thought ok maybe it's a close play and he got em both by 3-4 feet at first. He is very quick to the ball.

Just watched the highlights. Man, Bassitt looked good. Had a bad ass curve ball, a good tight slider and the fastball looked like it had some decent sink. Anyone think he has a chance at making the rotation in 2015? Just asking is all because I really don't know.

But according to most of Soxtalk after his first start - he was s***.

After watching Erik Johnson down the stretch in 2013 and then completely destructing in 2014, I'm not going to believe in any rookie pitcher unless they can produce over at least 3-4 months of starts...and, even then, they'll probably run out of gas in August/September.

Wow, just looked up Johnson's AAA numbers this year: 6.73 ERA and a 1.8 WHIP. WTF happened to him?

He hit 96 on the gun at one point tonight in the 6th inning. Didn't notice him throwing that hard in previous starts.

Johnson is absolutely in the anomaly category. His numbers say a lot but don't tell the whole story. Erik just plain lost his stuff and you don't see that often from a youngster.

Didn't the case be that Johnson was hurt and didn't tell anyone? (Even though, it seemed fairly obvious from his numbers).

I assume he'll start in AAA, where he still has not pitched yet. I can't imagine they'd have him jump Rodon on the depth chart, so I don't think they'll have a slot for him or even that he'd be competing for one. I'll assume we sign (or trade for) one legitimate pitcher who's not a scrapheaper. Danks and Noesi with the final two slots unless they decide to start the season with Rodon.

If there was an injury in there and they want to keep Rodon's clock from starting, I could see him getting the shot to fill in. He's prob right there with Carroll for that distinction as of now, but spring training would prob determine that.

He's got to be the leader in the clubhouse for the spot right now, especially after proving he can pitch well against the Tigers down the stretch.

He provides the perfect excuse to hold back Rodon until June, if nothing else.

Now, of course if they add a veteran 3/4 guy (see Santana/Garza/Jimenez discussion), 2 relievers and at LEAST one LF/DH bat and probably two, then Bassitt's the long man or in Charlotte, although he could still figure into the set-up equation.

In fact, that seemed to work wonders for Carlos Carrasco this year when he started off the year so terribly his first four starts. It forced him to pitch out of the stretch more often and simplify/clean up his mechanical issues.

Sale

Quintana

Noesi

Danks

Bassitt

Carroll/Beck/Surkamp/E.Johnson......then Danish/Montas....with the assumption that's the last time we ever see Rienzo in a Sox uni

I can see Bassitt getting a few months next year and then when Rodon is ready, they'll either demote him or try to ship Danks.

I'd love to see EJ bounce back and then there are three decent options with Bassitt, Johnson and Beck to hold down the fort.

I think Bassitt will start the year in AAA and be the 6th starter for the White Sox down there. It's nice to see he's doing this, but let's see how he handles AAA too. Regardless of any moves they make in the offseason, I think he and Carroll will be the guys on the outside looking in come May 1st or so.

I wouldn't be shocked to see him start at the ML level and then be the guy that gets sent out for Rodon in June.

It will be exciting having Rodon, Bassitt, Beck, and Johnson all starting at Charlotte. Danish and Montas with both be at Birmingham with Hawkins, Anderson and the rest of the crew. Luis Martinez, Jace Fry, and Spencer Adams will all be at either Kannapolis or Winston Salem. I left some guys out too but the Sox haven't had this much legit starting pitching in ages in the system.

I questioned him over last winter. I seriously did not see what the hype was about with Johnson. His fastball is straight as an arrow, his curve ball was decent when he didn't hang it and his change was alright. I wasn't surprised one bit that he fell on his face with the Sox but I did not see him falling that hard at Charlotte.

I'm thinking Rodon stays at Charlotte to start 2014 while the Sox look to trade Danks sometime in June, then call Rodon up. Bassitt's right handed pitching arm is why I'm wondering if he has a shot considering the sox are looking for a right hander in the rotation to go with Noesi. This would move Carroll into the pen where he pitches better anyway and could close up one hole in a pen full of holes.

This winter will be interesting to say the least.

If Carroll is any part of the 2015 White Sox, something went terribly wrong.

I don't see why its impossible for him to have a role in the bullpen.

He was actually a decent bridgeman in the pen this year.

Exactly. Carroll put up a 1.83 ERA in 19.2 innings as a reliever this year. A small sample but its something to go by and its likely he would be the long man in the pen.

It also picks up the same in his numbers when you look at how many times a batter sees Carroll as a SP...

1st AB .764 OPS against in 162 PA

2nd AB .771 OPS against in 162 PA

3rd AB 1.023 OPS against in 129 PA

4th AB 1.250 OPS against in 4 PA

As a reliever

1st AB .574 OPS against in 53 PA

2nd AB .851 OPS against in 24 PA

Yes, perfect candidate for long man in the pen. He can eat innings, is decent first time through the order, and he's not really a prospect so you don't stunt his growth.
