December 10, 201411 yr The White Sox have improved the DH/LH position, their bullpen including a real closer, and now a top of the rotation starter. With holes at 3B, C, and LF, the outfield seems the most likely to fill. Ultimately, as KW and Hahn said earlier, they are running low on funds. After everything is said and done, the Sox are a few million under $100M in payroll. How are the Sox going to get that needed piece (OF w/ glove that can hit well enough to slide into the #2 slot)? Trade seems most likely to me.
December 10, 201411 yr The only "hole" left is one of the outfield spots. While Gillaspie and Flowers aren't ideal, they aren't holes either. LF is definitely next.
December 10, 201411 yr Author QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Dec 9, 2014 -> 05:38 PM) The only "hole" left is one of the outfield spots. While Gillaspie and Flowers aren't ideal, they aren't holes either. LF is definitely next. I agree, which brings the question... Who? What are the options?
December 10, 201411 yr This will be an interesting move for Hahn to pull off. He could try trading a few more prospects for a young, cost controlled OF or take on a higher salary OF like Ethier but insist Danks is part of the trade somehow. Either way, it could be tricky.
December 10, 201411 yr Since I called Shark (and his extension which he will sign), I'll call this one, too. Gerardo Parra from MIL. Gold glover, flexible, can play CF as well. Would fit nicely in the 9 hole of the lineup and play gold glove defense. I could also see Michael Morse as a LF/DH platoon, although he won't be too cheap or a good defensive option.
December 10, 201411 yr Made s thread about it already, but I think Parra is a perfect fit for the Sox. We can get by with Flowers and Gillaspie, but i cannot settle for Viciedo any longer in LF.
December 10, 201411 yr Author The #WhiteSox, who are searching the marketplace for another OF and bullpen help, are telling teams that LF Dayan Viciedo is available. via Bob Nightengale.
December 10, 201411 yr What about a LF platoon of Parra and Denorfia? Also, it's important that the back-up outfielder can play CF due to Eaton's injury issues.

December 10, 201411 yr QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Dec 10, 2014 -> 07:06 AM) No offense but f*** platoons. We need a starting 8 out there. Not with Gillaspie on this roster, as well as LaRoche.
December 10, 201411 yr QUOTE (SoCalSox @ Dec 9, 2014 -> 07:44 PM) I agree, which brings the question... Who? What are the options? Ethier/Kemp/Crawford/Van Slyke Rasmus Morse (that would be the equivalent of Viciedo, or worse) Aoki Melky Cabrera Jay Bruce Alex Rios (haha) Snider/Lambo Parra Carlos Gonzalez/Dickerson/Blackmon

He's been such a good hitter for LA the past few years in limited time. Not sure why LA would trade him though. He's cheap and a great 4th OFer that can probably start on a lot of other teams.

December 10, 201411 yr QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ Dec 10, 2014 -> 01:14 AM) Upton would be quite the get. And the biggest gamble. You'd have to give up Anderson and Montas OR Danish and maybe even one more secondary piece...in the Top 11-25 range, someone like a Matt Davidson. At the VERY least, Hawkins and Montas OR Danish and another piece. That's just too high a price unless you're sure that you can keep him past 2015.

I think he's far and away the best of that bunch. He probably wouldn't cost Anderson but would take 2 or 3 top prospects. Maybe Danish/Montas, and Thompson plus.
December 10, 201411 yr Maybe it will be the end of Buddy Bell if some of these players like Semien, Thompson and Mitchell actually enjoy some success playing for other organizations. Will believe it when I see it, though.

Lester signing with the Cubs shouldn't affect what the Sox do, but I'd like to see Jay Bruce on the Sox. I think the Sox would have to give up too much for him, though. I don't see a scenario where the Sox wouldn't have to give up Montas, Danish, or Anderson to get him.

Fan attendance, more ticket sales, more commercials, more press. that is where i am going with this.
