Unless the money is substantially less for Volquez, I'd much rather have McCarthy.

Only if it's a cheap one-year deal. Otherwise, please no.

EDIT: You know what - please no regardless.

This is weird too. I don't mind the intention, but this doesn't seem like a good mix.

Hopefully it won't be a long deal. I'm still not sold on Volquez's season last year. Career low in BABIP at .263. K/BB rates were very average.

There's just no way McCarthy comes back.

Too much water under the bridge with that one.

I saw on Twitter that he wants 2 year, 20 mil

I'd assume there'd be a Danks domino to fall if something like this happened but who knows, the Sox still might have a bit more cash to play with than they're letting on.

Volquez is supposed to be looking for a 2/20 contract. I would not be opposed to that in the least bit.

Would be great to sign Volquez and trade Danks/ Viciedo. Would open up about 9M for the Sox to spend elsewhere.

Is he still juicing?

Pass.

Get him down to 2/15 and I'll take it.

Volquez and the Cell seem like a really bad mix, no thanks.

This.

There is literally no need for Volquez, would be wasted money

unless they are going to flip Danks.

Maybe teams are asking about Noesi?

Would rather just get masterson on a 1 yr prove it deal

Without moving Danks, it would be odd for them to go after Volquez instead of just sticking with Noesi for that spot.

We can pick apart McCarthy, Erwin Santana, Liriano and Peavy just as easily.

The fact of the matter is we spent much of last off-season on this topic. The difference is that IF IF IF you could offload Danks' contract (and you're going to take back Ethier, Crawford, Kemp or Victorino in return, so you're not SAVING money)....it would be a pretty critical get to add one more veteran piece to hold down the 4th starter's spot.

We all saw what happened with Erik Johnson, Paulino, Rienzo and Carroll out there last year.

There's no guarantee that Noesi won't end up like Phil Humber. On the other hand, there's a good chance he will pitch better than Rodon this season. Who really knows?

How many times has he made it over 150 innings in a season since 2007?

Once? Or twice?

Well, last year 192 innings. I think it's an intriguing idea. Especially if it results in Danks exiting.

I would love Volquez, especially if something is on the table with Danks.

So I am absolutely not trolling here whatsoever, but I think Ervin Santana makes a hell of a lot more sense than Edinson Volquez.
