December 10, 201411 yr Unless the money is substantially less for Volquez, I'd much rather have McCarthy.

December 10, 201411 yr This is weird too. I don't mind the intention, but this doesn't seem like a good mix.
December 10, 201411 yr Hopefully it won't be a long deal. I'm still not sold on Volquez's season last year. Career low in BABIP at .263. K/BB rates were very average.
December 10, 201411 yr There's just no way McCarthy comes back. Too much water under the bridge with that one.
December 10, 201411 yr I'd assume there'd be a Danks domino to fall if something like this happened but who knows, the Sox still might have a bit more cash to play with than they're letting on. Edited December 10, 201411 yr by Rowand44
December 10, 201411 yr Volquez is supposed to be looking for a 2/20 contract. I would not be opposed to that in the least bit. Would be great to sign Volquez and trade Danks/ Viciedo. Would open up about 9M for the Sox to spend elsewhere.

December 10, 201411 yr QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Dec 10, 2014 -> 09:30 AM) Volquez and the Cell seem like a really bad mix, no thanks. This.

December 10, 201411 yr QUOTE (TheTruth05 @ Dec 10, 2014 -> 03:32 PM) There is literally no need for Volquez, would be wasted money unless they are going to flip Danks.
December 10, 201411 yr QUOTE (LDF @ Dec 10, 2014 -> 09:34 AM) unless they are going to flip Danks. Would rather just get masterson on a 1 yr prove it deal
December 10, 201411 yr Without moving Danks, it would be odd for them to go after Volquez instead of just sticking with Noesi for that spot.
December 10, 201411 yr QUOTE (TheTruth05 @ Dec 10, 2014 -> 09:32 AM) There is literally no need for Volquez, would be wasted money We can pick apart McCarthy, Erwin Santana, Liriano and Peavy just as easily. The fact of the matter is we spent much of last off-season on this topic. The difference is that IF IF IF you could offload Danks' contract (and you're going to take back Ethier, Crawford, Kemp or Victorino in return, so you're not SAVING money)....it would be a pretty critical get to add one more veteran piece to hold down the 4th starter's spot. We all saw what happened with Erik Johnson, Paulino, Rienzo and Carroll out there last year. There's no guarantee that Noesi won't end up like Phil Humber. On the other hand, there's a good chance he will pitch better than Rodon this season. Who really knows?
December 10, 201411 yr QUOTE (LDF @ Dec 10, 2014 -> 09:33 AM) durability issues. How many times has he made it over 150 innings in a season since 2007? Once? Or twice? Edited December 10, 201411 yr by caulfield12
December 10, 201411 yr QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 10, 2014 -> 09:38 AM) How many times has he made it over 150 innings in a season since 2007? Once? Or twice? Well, last year 192 innings. I think it's an intriguing idea. Especially if it results in Danks exiting.
December 10, 201411 yr So I am absolutely not trolling here whatsoever, but I think Ervin Santana makes a hell of a lot more sense than Edinson Volquez.
