I take people's opinions on films with a grain of salt since its very much a matter of taste. As long as I like something, I am ok with it regardless of its reviews. Will Smith and Margot Robbie had some pretty incredible chemistry, which obviously wasn't well received in real-life by Jada Pinkett. Will put it this way...5X better than Runner, Runner with Ben Affleck and Justin Timberlake, although that's a VERY low bar or standard to get over. For most of the movie, it was quite watchable. The thing I kept thinking, though, is whenever you're on top of the world, something will strike you down, whether you're Tom Cruise, Meg Ryan, Brad Pitt/Angelina Jolie or now Smith, who around 5 years ago could do no wrong in Hollywood. In general, Americans tend not to be too forgiving about extramarital affairs (depending on how they go down) from their "role models." When it's the president, maybe the expectation is lower, haha. Would be hard pressed to say who's the most popular actor today...I guess Bradley Cooper and Ryan Gosling are close. For me, personally, Clooney and Denzel Washington have always been my two favorites, although I can see how Clooney's "The Player" smugness and "where is he saving people in the world today?" thing could be annoying to some. From everything you read, he is a very genuine and honest person, and a bit unconventional (see his choice of wife, when for the last 15 or so years he joked he would never marry again nor have children). Reminds me of adventure movies when I was a kid like Goonies and Rocketeer. Trainwreck could be funny and Everest and The Walk could be intense. B- Seems like this one will be a huge successful financially but a step back for the series artistically/creatively...sounds a bit like Furious 7 but with 3 times as many characters jammed into that 2 1/2 hours (to sell more action figures and Happy Meals, one would guess). That's why the "smaller" feeling pictures like the Captain America ones, the first Iron Man, the first Thor....that are more "personal" and intimate will probably end up as our favorites. Sometimes, you can overdo it with the action/set-pieces. Maybe that moment has finally arrived. Will probably end up in the $1.3-1.35 billion range. No chance to threaten Avatar or Titanic, though.
