But from Pitts point of view they are likely looking to trade from their outfield depth which is rather deep considering they just sent Tabata and his contract to AAA. Reese is a heck of a prospect but he's a catcher at A+ and only 20 years old so he's likely quite a ways off from being MLB ready which does not really help the Sox much. Diaz could step into the majors right now as a good defensive oriented backup with a cannon for an arm and still just 24 years old so there is still a chance he could become an every day catcher in time.

If Pitt needs a second player the Sox could offer a reliever in the deal since thats one area the Sox have an excess of.

As far as 3B Pitt does not have anything to offer that could help the Sox in the short term. They have Wyatt Mathisen but he doesn't grade out any better than what the Sox have in Delmonico. I actually prefer Delmonico over Mathisen.

So as far as trading with Pitt goes its about outfielders and catchers.

I'll take an outfielder who can hit and play D and a good catching prospect. I'll take 2 such OFs instead. That's fine. They aren't in a position to use this to plug a hole, if it means passing on superior talent.

#Tigers, #Astros and #Royals reportedly in the mix for Jeff Samardzija. @Gelman_Scott with details: http://www.mlbdailydish.com/2015/7/4/88944...rs-trade-rumors

I really hate when people write articles and can't get facts straight. Samardzija didn't sign in the offseason he was trade for by the sox and they agreed on his final year of arbitration before he hits free agency.

excellent point, i didn't think of that.

umm but the sox will need to trade to fill holes, and need to trade for players who the other team may want to trade.

Jeff Samardzija “may be the first starting pitcher moved ahead of the trading deadline” since “scouts are constantly at his games,” Cafardo writes.  The White Sox aren’t ready to start selling yet, but they’ll find a strong market for Samardzija’s services that includes the Royals,Astros and Tigers.  (Cafardo cited several more teams in the Samardzija market in his column last week.

Let's just hope that the front office is not going to delude themselves into thinking that they still have a realistic chance for this year's playoffs.

It's not impossible, but a bad bet. They need to get something to prepare for next season. If they really want Shark, they can always try to sign him in the offseason.

I'd rather see them try to fill another hole.

They still have the comp pick, so if teams offer crap, they have leverage.

I agree. The comp pick would be OK, if they can't get something better in a trade.

Listing Houston and Toronto as head of class at scouting shark

i kinda wish that the trade gets done sooner than later. they should should put out the feelers now and see what is out there. this not doing anything is bull crap.

It's July 5th. No reason to rush being sellers.

I would also give this team a bit more time no matter how crazy that sounds. Who knows maybe that catch last night lights a fire under Avi and he takes off. With the pitching performing like we had hoped all we need is one or 2 guys to carry this team.

Sounds like Samardzija is getting more and more attention on the trade market so that's a good sign from the Sox perspective. Always have more leverage when a team comes to the Sox instead of the other way around.

Imo, I do not see a match with Toronto but Houston is very interesting. Would like to see the Sox get 1B AJ Reed from Houston. The Yanks are interesting as well and wouldn't mind packaging Samardzija with a reliever for Jorge Mateo and Gary Sanchez. I could be way off base with those proposals but I'm just thinking out loud. :)

They need to take offers now. If it's there, take it.

don't know what the market will look like in a month. We know today there are buyers.

what to overcome the hole that the sox are in to what??? make the wild card running?

this is a "fool gold" kind of wishful thinking. realistically i can't see it.

exactly, make the move first, before the other teams makes the first trade.

I understand what you mean. And I think I agree. Here's the problem. They have awesome starting pitching and are only 5.5 back of the 2nd WildCard. It's easy for us to say this. We don't know what Reinsdorf thinks though. If Reinsdorf doesn't want Hahn/Williams to sell yet, then they won't be selling. I think they let this play out over the next 2 weeks. They obviously believe in the team that they put together. I don't know how many games they need to be back to decide to sell around July 30th. I guess we'll just have to wait and see. Regardless, they don't have much to sell and they want to win again in 2016

It Is the offers that will dictate to who is moved. If the Sox keep winning, they're only going to trade SefuL pieces of it makes the team better in the very near future. Don't make trades for the sake of making trades! Bend a team over the chair or hold your guys.

i like the way this post is going.

hou - Brett Phillips or Derek Fisher - of. Jacob Nottingham - catcher. however hou has some really interesting pithers.

yank - Sanchez - cat, Jagielo - 3b, Tyler Wade - ss, Domingo Acevedo - sp. now i listed 4 players, i would like sanchez pluy 1 ot the following.

wow, you got an excellent point and brought up something interesting.

i wouldn't pass the idea of the sox doing nothing, until they are mathematically out of it. i can see the owners doing nothing until them, b/c of the grief they have received this season.

in other words, being difficult.

With the pitching staff going the way it is I don't think trying for a wild card spot is a bad thing.

I know I'm in the minority but I wouldn't hate to see the Sox ADD a bat somehow. You add a bat to this staff and its a whole new team.

so you are for keeping the team together, keeping the pitching staff together, and somehow add a bat for a wild card run.

ok, i with you, but if this team fails, the perfect trading pieces and time would have been wasted. a time that the team NEEDS to address the holes the team has. there is NO help in the minors coming in the fix those holes, and trading pieces in the offseason, well, that price or need may not be there.

i like the never say die attitude you have, but the "White Flag Trade" part 2 is needed.

Brett Phillips is a very realistic option since Houston has so much outfield depth. The Yanks Jagielo is certainly worth a look too.
