If anything, Gillaspie should be on a National League bench. Pinch hit, play once a week, play in AL parks during interleague. That's who he is.

It's much more helpful for a guy like him if he can play more than 1 position or if there's a team with an obvious platoon partner for him.

Just the 3rd time they've scored 4 runs or more in the last 21 games.

Good call to let LaRoche swing 3-0, kind of a no brainer with Simon completely losing his command.

I can flip that and say it's the 2nd time in 3 games they scored 5 or more.

sigh

JD is on fire.

5-4 Sox HR Martinez.

Not impressed with Rodon today he got runs and is pissing them away. Flowers called same pitch 3 straight times.

Edited by Soxfest

you think the Tigers would rather have JD Martinez or Avisail Garcia

Lot of baseball left today. I could see this being 9-8, somebody.

Rodon allows too many hits but we would be crazy if we expected ace like numbers from a 22 year old rookie.

No but the walks are way too many. He never walked guys like this in college.

Rodon ERA on the season finally over 4.00 again...

98 pitches, nobody throwing in the White Sox bullpen.

Hmmm...

Trying to be too perfect there.

Exactly. He's learning on the fly.

He'll get his 140 major league innings this year with an ERA around 4, and then he'll get better next year, and the year after.

I've been impressed with him this year. He already can compete at this level, and he had very little refinement time.

It's not really fair to compare college hitters to MLB hitters. MLB hitters have way more patience and are 100X better overall.

I know that but he is not even close with a lot of pitches, not like he is just off the plate.

How many college hitters could hit/lay off his world class slider?

That doesn't sound like that pitch to me, it was a hanging slider?

Because big league hitters lay off pitches outside of the zone and make you come to them...

Completely different scenario in terms of talent level, most NCAA Div 1 line-ups have 2 pro prospects, maybe 3 out of 9 in a line-up.

David Price, a guy Rodon has been compared to more than once, had a 4.42 ERA his rookie year. He started cutting back on the walks, and became a star his second season.

Rodon will figure a way to cut the walks. When he does, as long as he doesn't get hurt, he will be in the Cy Young conversation.

Tigers' announcers called it as a high change-up...would have to watch the video replay.

Very few to none. But some MLB hitters can. That's the difference. Plus, MLB hitters make him pay on mistakes, where that wasn't usually the case in college.

I truly hope that is the case.

Just his 15th walk of the season.

Kris Bryant or Rizzo puts up those numbers in 2-3 weeks.

That's shockingly low compared to last year for Jose.

Abreu has been pressing, just like the rest of the team. The difference he is just a way better hitter than anyone else on this team, so he still is "productive".

Hence, the reason they are major league hitters.

It is waste of time to be stressing about Rodon at this point. He could be pitching in double A, and putting up numbers there. The kid is already in the show, and is still holding his own.
