Boston Red Sox Additions

Would anyone on the board be interested in Hanley Ramirez or Pablo Sandoval? They have a lot of money left on their deals. Is it something the Sox should consider though? Hanley could come to Chicago and play at 3B occasionally or DH. Would Boston take back Danks/Ramirez to be rid of Hanley? How much $$ would they have to eat for White Sox to deal?

Hell. No.

I have had this exact thought in the back of my head. The Sox did sniff around Sandoval before tapping out fairly early due to the cost. Would the White Sox be interested if in a Hamilton or Prince type of deal where the Red Sox send a boatload of cash along with Sandoval for some prospect package?

I'm not even sure how it's possible for Hanley to be putting up the defensive numbers he is in Fenway's left field.

Stay far away. They're both poison and I wouldn't trade Danks for them.

I've never really loved Sandoval. Hanley is a selfish player but he can really rake.

Everything about Hanley Ramirez offends me as a baseball fan. Bringing him into this situation right now makes things worse, not better.

Just going off of what we already know has happened, and what has been done around baseball in similar situations. Though as fragile as this group seems to be, I can't see them swinging Hanley.

The on-field play of our current team offends me. I usually gamble on talent. I understand your points though.

They're saying Hanley is worse in LF than Manny was, and they're saying it's because he refuses to care at all.

Hanley no. Sandoval sure if they want to give us money as well

Oh yeah I know. I'd never ask him to play LF though.

I'd consider Hanley if they sent a boatload of cash with it and move him back to shortstop. As a shortstop he was a 5 win player in half a season in 2013 and a 3 win player in 2014.

I would definitely take Sandoval off their hands for a nominal fee.

No - please no.

"proven veterans" is the same road we've been driving and it's been a disaster.

Change direction, please.

Pablo Sandoval

This team is already among the least likable White Sox teams I can recall without that clown on the roster.

come on, Pablo adds likes like no other

Sandoval is 28

Sandoval is 28

And his OPS has declined every year since his age 24 season

Sure, why not? Let's ride the declining old veteran hitter death train until it crashes!

I think you are going to be disappointed though. There's no way they go completely young and sell off everything of value. J.R. will be planning on winning in 2016. Regardless of what we think or want.

Pablo is eating his way into becoming a DH, problem is that his bat does not carry the same weight his body does to be a DH.

I could see some interest in Hanley as a DH if Boston ate a Chuck of that salary and the Sox didn't have LaRoche as a DH. Then there's there's the possibility of Avi and Melky being future DH's. Further then, is in order for the Sox to take on what's left of Hanley's salary after Boston pays their portion, Boston would have to take on a higher salary contract from the Sox in order for the Sox to fit Ramirez into their payroll. On yeah, the White Sox aren't contenders either so I'd doubt there would be interest in the first place. Just my opinion is all. :)

I would want Hanley's production but not Hanley the human being.

On come on raBBit. It's just Hanley being Hanley. ;)

To look at the "Sandoval is eating his way into a DH" comment a different way...you can put both of them in the "attitude issue" column which is something we're already struggling with. He didn't come to camp in shape this year, that's one mark. He's getting himself disciplined for being on his cell phone during games, that's another mark. Maybe the problem is with the Red Sox management and somehow the next White Sox manager will run a cleaner ship...but Sandoval seems to be in the same boat as Hanley right now.

Now Molly Knight tells the story of the Dodgers’ 2013 and 2014 seasons with detailed, previously unreported revelations. She shares a behind-the-scenes account of the astonishing sale of the Dodgers, and why the team was not overpriced, as well as what the Dodgers actually knew in advance about rookie phenom and Cuban defector Yasiel Puig and how they and teammates handled him during his first two roller-coaster seasons. We learn how close manager Don Mattingly was to losing his job during the 2013 season—and how the team turned around the season in the most remarkable fifty-game stretch (42-8) of any team since World War II, before losing in the NLCS. Knight also provides a rare glimpse into the infighting and mistrust that derailed the team in 2014, and resulted in ridding the roster of difficult personalities and the hiring of a new front office.

Hanley Ramirez is portrayed as the main reason there was infighting in that clubhouse...

You want to get rid of Hanley? Tie Mookie Betts to him."

He paused and reconsidered.

"OK, maybe not Betts," he said, "but someone of value."

The Red Sox are not yet that desperate with Sandoval. Even Ramirez, whose attitude has irked some respected members of the Red Sox's clubhouse, is not at the point of no return. Ramirez wore out his welcome in the fissured clubhouse of the 2014 Los Angeles Dodgers, according to "The Best Team Money Can Buy", a soon-to-be-released book by Molly Knight that chronicles the manifestation of a dysfunctional team worth nuking. Boston bringing him back despite his habitual bridge-burning – Ramirez was traded from the organization as a minor leaguer in part because of his tremendous ability to anger those with whom he played – hasn't exactly worked out as planned. Age doesn't always equal maturity.

As Ramirez continues to play polarizing figure and manager John Farrell faces blowback from certain corners of the clubhouse as he tries to wrangle a group still capable of going on tilt, hitting the doomsday button on this incarnation of the …
