Offense finally breaks the 4 run curse at home!

Gotta love Ventura calling for the home run right there

2 winner threads. Guy beat me by an eyelash .

Eaton was the straw that stirred the drink tonight. He got the game tying infield hit in the sixth and the game winner in the 11th .

Bullpen 6.2 innings of 2 hit no run ball against one of the best offenses in baseball. They are a very solid bunch at home .

We're good at something !

That just broke a 24 game home streak of not scoring more than four runs...or was it not scoring more than three?

Either way, pretty incredible at USCF. Even in these offensively challenged days.

Danks still sucks. Guess the concept of two in a row was impossible for him.

Great job by the bullpen and defense for most of the game....Avi continues to do really dumb things.

But that 4 for 5 looked pretty good from Avi too.

Win the damn series tomorrow

Now that's a Dingerfest! :gosox2:

Great win. Eaton deserves credit. Walk off home runs are pretty impressive. He's starting to get good again. Avi 4 hits is pretty damn nice. Lexi with the glove. The bullpen shut me up and did the job. Sox have been playing better of late. True, the losses have been maddening, but they've won a lot of gams of late.

Adam Eaton is now 5th on the team in isolated power.

Something is amiss with the Bluejays hitting success at home. Its almost like they know what pitch is being thrown.....

Hasn't there been smoke around that in prior years?

They lead baseball in most runs scored on the road.

does any one remember the sox coach who was adapt at stealing signs from the catcher??? what was his name??

either way, maybe they are doing the same thing. it was a old time gift of the old times in baseball.

Don't mean to be a downer, last night was fun, but Avi's turn for second was so awful. Everyone in the stadium knew he had no shot. How many hits has he inexplicably run into outs? What stat shows that story?

Nobody said their offense was bad, its just much better at home.

The ball was wet, It wasn't the greatest play, but he was pretty close to safe. It was a good throw. The tag was bad. Would have been interesting to see if the throw was off a bit. He might have been safe, or even out a larger margin.

Pretty close to safe in baseball means an out. This wasn't running home, the ball wasn't hit that deep, nor too much in the gap. There was no reason to turn and waste an out like that. He has done this continuously...has it ever paid off?

FG has a UBR (Ultimate Base Runs) stat that takes that stuff into account. No idea how it's calculated, but I would guess it's based on the linear weight values between the two potential outcomes in the situation, like how many runs would be added by taking an extra base vs. standing pat or getting thrown out. FWIW, Avi in 2015 has been worth roughly negative five runs, or negative half a win.

The only reason it was close was because the tag was horrendous, though. The ball beat him by a mile.

That would be the TOOTBLAN - thrown out on the bases like a nincompoop. You can go here - http://tootblan.tumblr.com/ - and find, supposedly, every TOOTBLAN in the majors since 2013. Click on 2015 database and filter however you want. It looks like it's updated with last night's games but I don't see Avi's there yet, so that gives me some concern about how complete this is. Anyway, if you include yesterday, looks like Avi has been thrown out trying to stretch a hit 4 times.
