July 25, 201510 yr I know there was a thread started and much discussion over the possibility of the Sox trying to get Puig from the Dodgers. Just FYI, according to Heyman at CBS Sports.com in a story this morning, the Dodgers have told him he will not be traded. Mark Edited July 28, 201510 yr by raBBit
July 25, 201510 yr Meh, of course they will tell him that . If they do end up trading him anyway, he's not their problem anymore anyway. (Not that I think he will be traded anyway )
July 28, 201510 yr QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jul 28, 2015 -> 03:34 AM) Dodgers saying Puig available for right deal per Nightengale. i know, i am a little confuse on this... http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2015/07/dodg...-listening.html
July 28, 201510 yr Puig trade possibility a mystery should be the new and improved thread title. Edited July 28, 201510 yr by caulfield12
July 28, 201510 yr QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jul 28, 2015 -> 07:28 AM) Puig will most definitely either be traded or not traded. You don't know that.

July 28, 201510 yr Word out of LA is that Puig never asked anything about the trade and is denying this story in general. Basically, he was upset people thought he was concerned about being traded and talked to the front office. Yesterday on the radio, the local sportscasters were hilarious at how little they value Puig. They wanted to trade him for Craig Kimbrel or Aroldis Chapman.

Yesterday on the radio, the local sportscasters were hilarious at how little they value Puig. They wanted to trade him for Craig Kimbrel or Aroldis Chapman. Castrovince had him all the way down at 17 in the top 25 players 25 and younger. No Rodon, either. Pretty crazy to put Machado that high when he's been so up and down the last couple of years. Just as it's pretty crazy IMO to have Puig that far down after four months of 2015, after the numbers he put up in his first two seasons. He also has Joc Pederson ahead of Puig, and Nolan Arenado way too low. Then Fernandez at 6 when he has just come back from TJ surgery? Mookie Betts ahead of all those young pitchers with the Mets, for example? No Gallo. Bogaerts is finally hitting again (but limited) power and he's ahead of Rodon? http://m.mlb.com/news/article/139014786
July 29, 201510 yr The Sox have a chance to add Puig to a stable of reliable, ready to play younger players. This is a deal that could make them. To be able to build around Abreu/Puig on offense and Sale/Samarj/Rodon/Fulmer on the mound That's star power Time to deal Quintana, Puig, and any two prospect(s) not named Rodon, Anderson, or Fulmer for Puig and Guerrero. Agreed. At this point, you'd almost rather it happened in the offseason (due to the team chemistry consideration), but the Dodgers are desperate for a legit 3rd starter right now and that same situation won't exist in the off-season when their big pockets can work to their advantage in the FA market. Absolutely agree! I'd be stoked to add Puig.

I would not trade Quintana and 2 top prospects for Puig. That's an overpay. Guerrero has little value at all....a prospect in the Sox #20 range. Straight up or not at all. And I don't trust Puig anyway. Fulmer is in A ball. Samardzija is a workhorse but his peripherals are questionable for long term deal. Edited July 29, 201510 yr by GreenSox

The dude will be on the big club next season.

July 29, 201510 yr Define special? Q is a top 15-20 starting pitcher with a ridiculously valuable contract. By any metric Q has been much better than Puig this year and basically even with him last year. I like Puig too but if he's special so is Q.
July 29, 201510 yr Samardzija's sinking K rate, velocity, and release point worries me as far as an extension goes.
July 29, 201510 yr Greinke, Cueto, Price, Porcello, Iwakuma, Lincecum, Fister, Jordan Zimmermann, Gallardo, Latos, Shields, Haren, JA Happ, Ian Kennedy, MIke Leake, etc. We are not being forced to overpay Samardzija $90-110 million. That kind of 5-6 year contract is just scary with a pitcher already in his 30's who has never had a TJ surgery. Trading Puig for Quintana wouldn't force the White Sox to extend Shark, and he certainly won't sign an extension at this point in the free agency process unless we're willing to overpay. Certainly won't be a hometown discount. Edited July 29, 201510 yr by caulfield12

July 29, 201510 yr Iwakuma’s spent a good chunk of the year on the DL and is a pure rental, but he’s been great over his past three starts and is distancing himself from the bizarre and uncharacteristic homer problems that plagued him upon his return. Iwakuma has a 4.50 ERA, but both xFIP and SIERA feel his skills are more indicative of a 3.50ish ERA. He’s earning $7MM this season, making him very affordable. As I noted in profiling Latos earlier this month, he’s been a different pitcher since coming off the DL with a nagging knee injury that likely ties back to the surgery he had in 2014. Latos’ fastball velocity is up more than two miles per hour since coming off the DL, and he’s striking people out in bunches. Since I last examined his stock, he’s allowed four runs in 20 innings with a 19-to-3 K/BB ratio. Overall, he has a 2.96 ERA with 8.5 K/9, 1.8 BB/9 and a 45.2 percent ground-ball rate in 45 2/3 innings since getting healthy. The Mat Latos of old is back, and he might be the most underrated rental on the market. Here's two arms that will come at half the price of Samardzija and thus would be better bets IMO.
