December 4, 201510 yr QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Dec 4, 2015 -> 04:14 PM) Where would the White Sox play him? if he is any where close to that, in place of Avi.
December 4, 201510 yr Author QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Dec 4, 2015 -> 10:14 AM) Where would the White Sox play him? Same dilemma as if the Sox were looking at signing any other FA outfielder. If necessary, LaRoche becomes a platoon/ bench bat for late innings with Melky at DH and Kim in LF. I like that Kim won't cost a pick or prospects to acquire, just aa contract. Of course, this doesn't help the left side of the infield situation but he would provide some pop from the left side of the plate. Just throwing out the idea.
December 4, 201510 yr Maybe correct the thread title. He hasn't been posted. He's a free agent. Anyone can negotiate with and sign him.
December 4, 201510 yr Author Kim's defense is suppose to be "solid" so it could be safe to say he would b a upgrade in LF. I really really hope the Sox get afterr this ball player and sign him. If I had to choose I would easily go after Kim over Hwang. I know Kim's stats are from playing in the KBO but I think he has a better chance of adjusting to the MLB than Hwang.

December 15, 201510 yr Dan Connolly @danconnollysun 37m37 minutes ago Sources: The #Orioles are negotiating with, and have made an offer to, LH-hitting Korean outfielder Hyun-Soo Kim, 27. A sign that they use their money on Davis and not spend big on Upton, Cespedes, or Gordon?
December 15, 201510 yr QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Dec 14, 2015 -> 09:09 PM) Dan Connolly @danconnollysun 37m37 minutes ago Sources: The #Orioles are negotiating with, and have made an offer to, LH-hitting Korean outfielder Hyun-Soo Kim, 27. A sign that they use their money on Davis and not spend big on Upton, Cespedes, or Gordon? Isn't Davis primarily a DH? Is this player projected as an OF? What kind of money is in play here as well?
December 15, 201510 yr Author "In an attempt to fill at least one of their outfield holes, the Orioles are negotiating with, and have made an offer to, 27-year-old Korean Hyun-Soo Kim, according to industry sources. The offer is believed to be two years in length and roughly in the $3 to $4 million range per season, one source said." http://www.baltimoresun.com/sports/orioles...1214-story.html For that kind of money I would love to see the Sox make a serious offer. December 15, 201510 yr QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Dec 4, 2015 -> 04:15 PM) The Sox should sign this guy and Hwang. The hit rate on Korean players really hasn't been all that good, their monster stats don't seem to come with them.
December 15, 201510 yr Author QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Dec 14, 2015 -> 10:00 PM) Give me Upton who is way more proven, just more money You can have Upton, I'm not interested in him. I'm looking at OBP type players to help the Sox pathetic offense score some runs. Keep the line moving so to speak.

December 15, 201510 yr Author QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Dec 14, 2015 -> 10:29 PM) So sign the guy with an over .350 career obp? The Sox had 1 every day position player to have an OBP above .350, Eaton and he's it. I'll take help from wherever and whomever. Kim hit for AVE, drew walks with a low K-rate. Surely his stats won't fully translate in the MLB but for the money, the risk is rather minimal.

December 15, 201510 yr Author QUOTE (Knackattack @ Dec 14, 2015 -> 11:03 PM) Justin Upton's career OBP is .352 And Upton's OBP has been on a slow but steady decline since its peak in 2011 and has been below .350 the last two seasons. If fans want Upton that's fine, I get it but I'm not interested in a long term big money deal with him. I just don't think his performance will live up to the contract he signs which is why I'm open to other options.
December 15, 201510 yr QUOTE (Knackattack @ Dec 14, 2015 -> 11:03 PM) Justin Upton's career OBP is .352 Yup and he's only 28. Not sure calling 2011 his "peak" when he is in his prime years now. I completely agree this team desperately needs OBP players. Hell, I've been adamant on it this whole offseason, but we also desperately need power to go along with a respectable OBP. Upton fills both of those adequately. Would like to see if this guy's plate discipline translates though.
December 15, 201510 yr QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Dec 14, 2015 -> 11:26 PM) And Upton's OBP has been on a slow but steady decline since its peak in 2011 and has been below .350 the last two seasons. December 15, 201510 yr Author QUOTE (Kalapse @ Dec 14, 2015 -> 11:45 PM) Can you make this argument without using straight OBP? OBP was brought up because I mentioned Kim's OBP in the KBO. It was not me that brought Upton's name into a thread about Kim so how about the Upton discussions stay in the Upton thread and Kim's discussion stays here. For anyone interested in what I'm talking about I'll post the link again that shows his KBO stats. http://www.baseball-reference.com/register...id=kim---004hye Imo, he's worth making an offer to considering the money.
December 15, 201510 yr Didn't Kang work out pretty well for the Pirates? How does Kim stack up against Kang?
December 15, 201510 yr QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Dec 15, 2015 -> 08:11 AM) Didn't Kang work out pretty well for the Pirates? How does Kim stack up against Kang? Kang broke the game of baseball his final year in Korea, though the rest of his career wasn't anything special. I think he's pretty impossible to compare anyone to.
December 15, 201510 yr Post-steroid era aging curves are different, guys. Players are peaking much sooner. Also, not every guy is the same. Upton's age is an advantage because it doesn't seem likely to be affected by age-related decline soon, but we need to stop pretending he's a lock to improve the next few years just because he isn't 30 yet.
