Don Cooper At It Again?...

Featured Replies

Saw this at another location. I don't know how true or accurate it is but given Cooper's history and some of the things he's said about the fan base on his radio show it very well may have happened.

Anyway a poster said this:

"In response to negative comments about the Sox, he (Cooper) basically said that if you rip the team and ownership, we don't want you as fans anyway.

He said back in the day people stuck by their team no matter what.

There was a lot of liberally sprinkled profanity in there. He also called a season ticket holder, or his wife (not sure) a "Jay off" (substitute the y)

All of this was done on Facebook Messenger, which he thought would be private."

Poster said the comments have now been removed.

I'll go back to what I said when Cooper and Williams have ripped the fan base in the past, it's business 101...right or wrong, you don't rip your customers and those who are helping to pay the freight.

Coop is old school and set in his ways. I don't take it personal when he says politically incorrect things.

Something tells me that Don Cooper isn't much of a Facebook user

In the end though, Cooper has just as much right to rip the fans as the fans do to rip the FO. As a fan, I am not in the least bit offended by Cooper's words. I see nothing wrong with people speaking their minds.

true.... but they all take directions from the chairman of the board.

but when the team has problems getting fans, as someone said, business 101.

Does anyone really see Don Cooper on facebook messenger?

LOL at all of it.

To be honest, if Cooper really did say that ( I have my doubts) then some Sox fans need to grow a thicker skin and stop being such pretentious whiners. What's good for the goose is good for the gander. Have you seen some of the ignoramous comments left by fans on the Sox site or on Facebook? Whiny toddlers looking for something to rip the FO about but if the FO has anything to say in return the fans instantly turn into the role of playing the victim. From what a few SoxTalk members have said, the same stuff happens on twitter as well and especially lately.

I won't register on the Sox site because of the moronic comments left by fans on literally every article. I will admit that some of the comments are pathetically funny to read.

You are wise. :D

I use Facebook only for keeping up with bands on new releases and tour dates but I do get feeds from the Sox as well. Otherwise, I have one friend and that's my wife.

Coops track record speaks for himself. He is that way with the players and it is why it works so well and he's fully entitled to his opinion of the fans. And from my conversations with Coop, I always appreciated the fact that he was a straight shooter. I also think he's very fan friendly (in the sense that he'll talk to fans a ton during spring training and throw balls to kids, etc).

Yes.

Can you remove things from Facebook messenger?

You can say jag off on here.

I love me some Coop! Can't help but back him here. I just hope the media pricks don't try to make too much of a story out of this & try to ruin his career- he's a damn good pitching coach. Keeping my fingers crossed that they don't try to make news out of something that really isn't news. Media is the biggest hypocrite this world has ever seen & I have proof.

Also a big red flag.

Cooper is irascible when the team's not going well and he's facing some criticism, but that goes with the territory and he's been in the organization so long he should be used to it by now.

Sure, there are "meathead" fans but nothing approaching the amount of pressure and scrutiny a lot of teams are facing in places like NY, Boston, Philly, LA, etc.

As long as you feed him with talented guys like Rodon, Fulmer and Adams, he'll largely be content.

Now as far as him ever being the manager, the PR side of that would be a disaster. The "us vs. them/bunker mentality" works as a position coach a lot better than when you're the public face of an organization.

It's bad management to rip your customers.

especially considering the poor product Cooper et al have put on the field for the most part.

What we have is a message board post, with the evidence apparently "deleted".

Which means there's likely no truth to this at all.

Even if there is truth, still not sure it's worth devoting thought to. now farts, on the other hand, those things are interesting!

See, now you're speaking my language! Just dropped a nice little bomb on the wife about an hour ago while she layed next to me in bed. I told her I was blowing her a kiss. Sigh, then the smell hit her....
